Hello GTC’ers. I took the Primer course last weekend in Memphis/Tunica. I had a scheduled fun trip to Vegas already so I was ready to test my newly developing skills.
First of all, I am brand new and, in a word, I pretty much suck at controlled shooting but I have high hopes. I am not doing well but I did have the opportunity to watch a very skilled graduate do her thing. I was shooting at The Plaza and a couple was standing next to me. I heard the gentleman whisper to his bride, "That’s a GTC next to you". I threw a few numbers and then 7’nd out. He asked me if I knew Doc and Rose but since it was only a week ago, and I didn’t put it all together I said no. Of course he was talking about Dr Crapology and his bride but I didn’t make the connection at first.
Anyway, the nice lady asked if I minded letting her have my spot (Stick L1) when the dice came back around and, of course I said sure. After the dice came around I shot again, and again proved that I have much to learn and a lot of practice to do. I moved to the other side of the stickman and proceeded to watch a very skilled shooter take over. She had a roll of 32. That in itself was impressive, especially considering the number of 4’s and 10’s she hit, but when you consider that she is nearly blind and couldn’t even see the back wall, the feat is nothing short of miraculous. Her comment to me after we colored up, "That muscle memory really works!"
Turns out it was my honor to meet Lois and Clark who no longer post on here but have been fixtures here in the past. They were incredibly helpful and, only upon my asking, gave me some helpful pointers in my own journey.
If nothing else, it let me see what can be done and inspired me to no end to practice, practice, practice.
I have 1 more day left. Doubt I will come home with a profit because I have dug a pretty deep hole but I sure do have faith in developing my skills.
I also met another GTC grad, Brothelman, who was also quite helpful in giving me a few pointers (once we got away from the table) and about tipping and etiquette.
All in all, the trip was fun (even though I absolutely hate to lose money) and showed me that with hard work I, too, can be a skilled player. Bring on the practice sessions!
Till the next trip…

Don’t get discouraged. The throw will come. It is very early in your GTC/Advantage play journey. After the class was over we knew you would do good. Keep up the practice, self critique and remember what was taught. Rose and Doc have to make corrections to their individual throws all the time–we all do. Advantage play is a journey and not a destination.
Also remember it is not an honor to always be the one who throws. Watch players you don’t know and you will, from time to time, see "the throw" that we teach and you will make money on them but not always.
Look forward to seeing you in the future.
Rose and Doc

For the record, Both Lois and Clark told me I had a great looking shot. Just need to practice. Here’s to hoping they (and you) are right!
For now, I have 24 hours left in Vegas. Let’s see if I can slowly make this hole smaller! Off to the tables.

Did you get to roll with Bman? Knowledgable guy.
Keep up the practice and soon you will begin to see the results. Do you have a practice rig? Purchase or build one soon so you don’t lose what you picked up from the class.

I did get to roll with Brothelman. He is indeed knowledgeable and offered good advice. I was losing so I didn’t tip. He suggested that it would be wise to tip when I have the dice. Good advice. In the past, I only tipped if I was winning but i can see the value of tipping earlier in the session.
I realize I am very early in my Advantage Player experience and I really don’t have an advantage as of yet but dang it’s frustrating to 7 out so quickly when the friends you are with, rolling in a very random, ploppy manner, are kicking the table’s rear end. It’s even more frustrating when I am betting very little on them (and their good rolls) and a lot more on me (and my not so good rolls). I have lost more money on this trip than I ever have in the past. I have a pretty good 401 G set aside but I lost a little over 15% of it this trip. It will take a while to build it back up.
I think the thing to do is to practice a lot before I go to the casino again.
By the way, not sure if it’s too early but I went ahead and bought the Smart Craps software so I can better track my SRR.
Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

Just think about it I just started to hit the same spot over and over the hard six and only the hard six starts to show and, never in my life have i seen what we saw next, the box woman grabs a rag goes to the end of the table and wipes down the felt and the pyramids where I have been landing the dice while they are passing me the dice yes she wiped down the table felt and the pyramids vigorously, I wish I could of found it funny at the time but it was not.
Do not kid yourself this casino may not sweat a drunk who can not remember how many markers he signed and tries not to pay them, but they are not against letting you know that they are in charge and will do what ever they want.
It was nice to meet you

It is their game and we all have to deal with it .Glad you made some before they got your GOAT .
This just proves that you are getting better and they DON’T like it .
If all goes well I hope to see you at open Fri. in Vegas .
Did you ask her if she was rubbing it for LUCK after your roll ended . You should have told her that she needed to rub a little harder next time because the luck did not last long enough .
That is crazy what they did .
Did any of the other players say any thing ?
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

Of even more significance to me, Finisher PM’d me yesterday with some more pointers on tipping. He uses a method similar to what Dom discussed at the course with $1 on my pass line bet and a dollar on the line for the dealers. I added a dollar as odds bets every time one of my numbers hit (I was playing the even numbers buying the 4 & 10 for a quarter unless one was the point). Over the course of the morning, I tipped them upwards of $30-40 so everyone was happy. The bowman talked to me for awhile and was impressed that I was so thoughtful to take such good care of his dealers (thank you Bman and Finisher and Dom). He gave us a voucher that more than covered our breakfast (a really good one at that) and suggested that we had a place to stay when we come back in November. I am waiting on the casino hostess to get back to me.
Anyway, I am convinced that the what I have learned and am learning will pay nice dividends going forward. Thank you to Dom and all the instructors/mentors in Memphis and all who have been so generous of time and expertise here in the forum and the GTC’ers I met in Vegas.

My first trip to the tables will be in about 3.5 weeks. Any tables you enjoyed in vegas? Pm them to me and I’ll head that way on my trip. I Have practiced everyday thus far. Monday is grip practice for me. Still working to be consistent with grip over and over again. I think that affects my variance more than anything else.
Happy rolling
