Weekend in Memphis/Tunica

Spread the love

So first let me say, I was a little disappointed being banned from my first casino and I wasn’t even there. I didn’t get to experience it first hand. Thanks Arman!! Appreciate that.

What I like most about these weekends. Being able to see the improvements from the open house Friday to the end of the day Sunday. It is amazing watching these students become increasingly better over the course of the weekend. I love getting to meet new people and listen to stories from older students of what the last class was able to do for them. Very enjoyable.

I also love hanging out with such great people who are passionate about the same things I am. It makes for fun stories and great conversation.

Onto a quick story. Sunday morning, I am driving from Tunica to Memphis with Arman, Matt and Barry. 7:00am and literally not a person on the road besides us. We pass in the middle of RT 61 a fairly large turtle trying to cross the road. I avoid hitting him with no problem. 2 – 3 minutes later, Arman says, "We need to go back for him! We cant just leave him there." REALLY??? This will make us late and I don’t really want to get yelled at. It’s only my second class I’m teaching. But ok, we find the next turn around which is a v shaped, grass filled sloppy, muddy mess in which we almost get stuck in as we cross it. Now driving southbound, we see about 4 miles in the distance, the ONLY other car on the road coming towards us. No problem, there is plenty of room for him to avoid the turtle. We get to where the turtle is and pass him and all is ok! We get off at the next exit, turn around and start heading north again, trying to stratagize how we are going to move this turtle without having our throwing fingers snapped off. We pull up to the turtle and SPLAT! Yes, the car in front had run him over. So in silence, we slowly pull back onto the freeway and solemnly start driving. It was a very quiet drive the rest of the way.

Besides for that, what a great weekend. Got my first taste of True southern food. Thanks Dom! I love the new instructor shootout we had. Lots of fun. Had a nice run at a partnership invested slot machine and as always, some great rolls with some great friends. Thanks everyone for making it such a great weekend. Next time, please talk me out of taking a 5:00 am flight out on Monday!

Midnight …. you will become one of our best instructors. Your passion shows, and I loved your shootout contest even though you beat me!

I have to say it was a really fun weekend. I have never laughed so hard at myself…or Pitboss…I learned a ton and felt like I improved until my brain collided with my body on Sunday afternoon. Props to all of the instructors – Every one of you guys offered great advice and support throughout the weekend. I really enjoyed meeting all of our classmates, and looking forward to future good times. I learned a ton at the tables and in the class, but have to say besides Dom’s awesome roll on saturday night (I’m chalking that up to Pitboss making him eat Corky’s ribs) I had the most fun by myself at the table Monday morning really working on live throwing. One day I might actually figure this game out. 😛

All in all – What a blast.
Great seeing old friends, really fun meeting new friends.
Special thanks to Alligator Rose and Doc – You guys are the best.

PS – Dom – hope the move went smoothly….

Dom,
The shoot out should become a regular thing. I think we all had a good time doing it. As far as me beating you, pure luck!!! I’m sure you were distracted planning the big 39 for later
That night.

I have not laughed that hard in a long time. As the no sevens champion you had the ugliest throws of the entire weekend during those 10 minutes, but the numbers kept coming. Once you got to laughing there was no way to get you back. Congrats on the win.

I also had a great time. Learned a ton. I can not wait to take my knowledge to vegas next month. I’m 2 practice sessions in since Sunday and trying to get better. Worked on grip alone last night. Alignment good and light pressure. 5-count all the way from here on out. Loved the live betting session.

I want to thank all our teachers. I’m going with Mr Finesse’s 2×4 challenge tonight to get some arch on my shot. My biggest challenge is getting an exact routine so consistency improves. Also want to thank Matt, the bonecrushers fearless leader. And of course Dom, the greatest dice player in the world. Simply amazing.
