This was our first trip to AC since September. We were originally going to just go for two nights, and see how Charlie felt with all the walking, but when we heard the forecast for the snow on Thursday, we decided to go on New Year’s Day instead. The welcome we received from all the dealers and supervisors was very heart warming, and always makes us feel right at home.
Due to Charlie’s medical problems and hospitalizations, we had not been practicing much, so we were not comfortable playing craps the first day. We stayed Pai Gow, where I made a lot of money. Jack and Betty arrived late in the afternoon, and we had a nice dinner together, with an old friend for our waiter.
Early Thursday morning I surprised myself by shooting a 33 right at the start. It was all 6’s and 8’s, so the profit gave me a nice cushion for the stay. I followed that with a 4, 12, and 13. Sandtrap came a little later, but couldn’t get anything going. We met our friend Jimmy, who had turned 99 on Nov. 9th! He is still playing craps, and doing moderately well. We hope to be there, also, at that age. I played a lot of Pai Gow, while Sandtrap took naps.
Jack and Betty decided to go to The Palm for dinner since there was a special, but we stayed at the casino buffet because Sandtrap has no appetite and barely eats anything. He is also on a very restricted fluid and sodium intake. A chef came out from the back, and Sandtrap asked if there was anything he could eat from the buffet that didn’t have salt in it. The chef replied no, but that he was going to make broccoli rabe with garlic and oil, and he would make a portion without salt, and he would also grill a plain piece of chicken. What a wonderful mensch! By early afternoon, all the restaurants had been closed due to the storm, with the exception of the buffet, so we really had no choice.
Friday the only good roll was by Sandtrap, who slept in, and rolled a 20 after we had already had 5 rolls of nothing much. Friend Jimmy had a nice roll of 17, making several points, a 10, and a nice 14. After breakfast, again nothing happened, and Jack and I spent most of the time at the Pai Gow table, while Sandtrap tried 3 card poker.
Saturday morning, Sandtrap had a difficult time getting started, but eventually had a beautiful 15 and 22. I was up and down with rolls of 13, 17, 7,3,15,6,4,10. Fortunately, I still made money on them, as I was still hitting 6’s and 8’s. Jack had a better day, with rolls of 12, 20, 4,5,2,5,3, and a nice 19. I then went to Pai Gow, Sandtrap went to 3 card poker (where he hit a straight flush for very nice money), and Jack and Betty said they were going home early. We left later, hoping some of the snow and ice would melt.
My children in MA wound up with 2ft of snow, and the entire week off. We now have bone chilling weather, with wind chill factors at minus 14 tonight, and minus 15 for tomorrow.

I love Pai Gow, which is played against the dealer, unlike BJ, where players may get angry if they think you made the wrong play. Pai Gow is relaxing, and the other players are usually very friendly. The dealer will also always help newbies, and show them how to play the hands.
