In a sublimely hilarious example of life imitating art, a 28-year-old Florida man (sigh, why is it always Florida) has been arrested on drug charges. Why is this funny, you ask? The arrest comes just over three months after the man, Ryan Lee Carroll, won a contest to watch the series finale of hit AMC crime drama ‘Breaking Bad’ with the cast. Did he learn nothing from the rise and fall of Heisenberg?
Sadly (because that would make the story a little too perfect), Carroll wasn’t arrested for operating a meth empire. He, along with two other men, have been charged with the possession and distribution of synthetic marijuana. Police allege that Carroll and company used a cement mixer to create their product, and shipped it to customers via the good old United States Postal Service. Hopefully they at least shelled out for next day delivery, complete with signature confirmation.
To add insult to injury (or more accurately, to add insult to two felony counts and a misdemeanor), the cops have also seized the souvenir Hazmat suit that Carroll won as part of the contest. The one of a kind item was personally autographed by every single ‘Breaking Bad’ cast member. Ouch. Even worse, Carroll was arrested on New Year’s Eve. I’d assume that his New Year’s resolution is to hire a good lawyer. I’d recommend Saul Goodman. Call Saul!
