A very quick note. Surgery was last Friday and was incredibly successful. They feel very confident that they got all the cancer. Only problem is they had to take out a good portion of the esophagus and trachea. No longterm downside. Just makes recovery a little tougher. I came home last Tuesday night and I’m wishing I was back in the hospital for the iv pain meds. Way to hard to swallow pills although I have some good ones. At this point, no follow treatment is necessary ie radiation or chemo. Recovery is 4 weeks at home. Then I can slowly start to get back into my routine. Liquid diet for two more weeks. Then soft foods for 2-4 weeks. Hope everyone is doing well and thank you for all of the well wishes I received last week. They all meant a lot to me.

Michael

FYI, Get the pain pills that go in the other end as they work just as well and are absorbed quickly.

They have me on daulaudid which is a tiny tiny pill. So it’s not too bad. And when I have to take the other medications, which is once a day, I have this numbing spray that works well for about 15 minutes. So I take the medicine, drink a bottle of water and eat a suger pop all in that 15 minutes. But I just don’t have it in me to do anything in the other end. But thanks for the suggestion.

Glad to hear that you are doing well after the surgery. Those dilaudid pack a real punch. My girlfriend was prescribed them last year. If you continue having problems swallowing pills you can get some liquid pain meds that would be easier on you. I know that you can get Vicodin in liquid form.
Hope to hear that you are back at the tables soon.
