Craps

Very unfortunate News today

Spread the love

So I went to the doctor for a severe sinus infection that would not go away with several antibiotics! They sent me for a cat scan of my sinuses and found a pretty large mass on the back of my throat! They scraped it for a biopsy! i felt optimistic being that I never have smoked a cigarette a day in my life. When I received a phone call from my doctor on a Saturday morning, I got nervous. It is a malignant tumor! So I am heading down to Mount Sinai in Manhattan Friday morning for surgery! I will be in the hospital for a few days followed by 3 – 4 weeks at home and a full recovery (optimistically) of 6 – 8 weeks. I will be unable to speak for 14 days following surgery! The oncologist feels positive in this was caught early enough that it shouldn’t have spread. He doesn’t think that follow up treatments such as chemo will be necessary. Just a very hard and painful recovery! So I think my playing will be on hold until the end of this year. I may try to get up to Connecticut for a couple of hours this week, but lots to do to prepare. Being that I have 3 young boys, 7, 5 and 1, please pray that all goes well this upcoming weekend. Thank you!

Michael

Michael,

As unfortunate as this is, you are lucky to have found it early enough that they can do something about it. Had the tumor been further down in the esophagus it could have been a different story. Tumors in the esophagus usually are not found until the mass is too large to do anything about. The positive prognosis from your oncologist is very encouraging.

Wish you a speedy and complete recovery. You will be in our prayers.

Thank you all for the kind wishes. I think I am incredibly lucky that they found it when they did. So I have a very positive outlook on my outcome. It also keeps things in perspective for me on how lucky I am to have the things in my life that are so important to me. Makes you realize what we all take for granted on a daily basis. Anyways, once I am home, I’ll shoot a quick note to let you know that all went well. I look at GTC as my second family, and feel appreciated by all your comments. So thank you again.
