Craps

Vegas in August Part 1

Spread the love

Drove over Thursday and made good time. Stopped at the M on my way in since Sally had some slot coupons. Table was empty and I started out with a natural on my first toss. Followed by making the point of six and ten. First roll was a roll of which was a triple digit winner. Next two roll were only a four and seven with no naturals or points made. Still left with a double digit winner for the visit.

Was happily surprised to find our room was available at the Trop and my spot was available at a $5 table. Rolled 10 times before the table got crowded. Dice were looking good, but only had a total of 68 rolls. However two rolls were double digit and one roll of nine where I made 3 points. So I was still up double digits before calling it quits.

Drove out to Orleans because we think their cafe has a good hamburger we often have. Rolled five times for a total of 5 rolls. Made money on three of them and lost on 2 and wound up winning a double digit amount before breaking for supper. After supper found a different $5 table and rolled nine times for a toral of 66 rolls, two of double digits but four of 4 rolls or less. Lost double digit amount.

When we drove back to Trop tables were now $10 and both were two crowded for me to play on. Called it quits for the night. I had rolled 26 times and was down a low double digits.

Sally had registered me for the Video poker Tournament so I didn’t have to leave a spot at the table to register. Tournament was no charge to me and there were about 150 players registered. Never knew an exact number. Players from 131 up would get $50 slot play availed from your card.

As Trop did at the blackjack tournament for $100 you could buy the right to discard one of your scores and play an alternative round. I strongly dislike the idea of paying to play so passed on paying for that right.

Back to craps now.

When we went down to play Friday only one $10 table was open and several people were playing and my spot wasn’t available so I passed on the table.

Went down to Planet Hollywood and they had two $10 tables open. My spot was available. Had rolls of 7, 7, and 8 and lost a high double digit number on my three rolls and lost even more on the Chicken feeders that qualified, reminded me what the best bet on CFers is zero. Had breakfast and since the table at Trop was full played a little VP that I broke even on before my tournament time,

Tournament was played on 24 regular Bonus Poker games with a 99.17% pay table. You played 100 hands or 15 minutes which ever came first. All of the machines weren’t in play but I ha a chance to check all the scores and they were only 3 above my 620. I asked and was told no one had a Royal in these first two groups.

Still couldn’t get to my spot on the table so drove over to Palms where Sally plays a 9-6 JB VP. since I had lost at PH took a marker at Paclms to replenish my cash. Can’t take a market at the table but have to do it at the cage.

First roll at Palms was a 19 that I almost won $100 on. Followed that with rolls of 3, 2,2, 9, and 7 and I given back most of what I won on the first roll. Then I had a roll of 28 while only making one point of a ten but rolled numbers I was on and was up a mid three digit amount. Had one more roll of six which I lost a little on and paid my marker off and had a stake for the next table and joined Sally at VP.

She was playing 50 play penny JB game and had 4 to a Royal on the bottom, hit two royals 8 other flushes and 12 large pair for a very good win and we went elsewhere.

Caught lunch at the Rio where I lost on rolls of six and three but made enough on CFer who qualified to leave up slightly.

More to hollow

Saturday morning my spot wasn’t available so we drove over to the Palms to start my play.

Two tables were open, one was fairly full and my spot wasn’t available and I went to the other table which was empty. I had never seen this table open but found it about like the other table. Had rolls of 8, 6, 10, 14, 7, and 12. Made money on on each of the rolls ranging from $9 to $100. Saw that the other table had emptied out completely and asked the dealers and were told it was also a $10 table so I didn’t change tables.

When I decided to take a break and cashed out walked by the other table and since it was only a $5 table I bought back in to play there. Threw a roll of 30, with one natural come out and make my first point of 10. Came out on the 4 which I didn’t make but rolled 3 tens, in the 16 rolls before the seven out. About a week OK they had changed from paying the vig on buy bet only on wins, to you paying the vig up front. With a low triple digit win to go with a similar win on the $10 table we drove back to Trop for my VP play.

Couldn’t get to the one $10 table before the VP play. Had a decent score of 1,000 to go with my previous score but found out that one person had a Royal in the first session, so knew I wasn’t the leader. Had to wait until 9:00 pm to find out if I had won more than the $50 free play everyone had from the tournament.

They now had two $10 tables open and I got my spot with only two others at the table. First time with the dice was a roll of six and second time was a point 7, so I was down for this casino today. Next rolls was a 20, made the first point of a six but couldn’t made the six when I came back with it my second point. However, I was now up for this session. Still only 2 CFers, neither of which passed the 5 count so I got the dice back fairly quickly. First point was a 5 and it took me five rolls to repeat it. Next come out was also the 5 again and I came right back on the five. Next point was an easy 10 and I came right back with a hard 10. Next roll was the hard 10 again and three rolls later another hard 10.

Came out with a hard 8 and it took me 12 rolls to hit it again. Came out again with the easy 8 and rolled the 8 again. Next point was the 5 again that I made in two rolls. Followed by a point of 4 which I couldn’t make. Turns out this roll of 40 was my longest roll for this trip. Table had filled up so I called it quits with another low triple digit win.

We went to see the movie Jobs which I have posted about in the "Movies" section.

After the movie, I couldn’t get my spot at the table but I sat with Sally while she played VP.

That evening, I went down and threw three time, first two were 6 and 4 and I made a little and lost a little. Third roll was a roll of 13 and I won 100+ and called it quits for the evening up 100+.

More to follow.

So the Palms requires you the pay the vig up front now, correct?

Posted by: ACPA on September 3, 2013, 7:20 pm

Correct, it changed since I was there in July.

Wrote something last night and though I posted a Part 4, but see that it didn’t make it. Was reading/posting from my iPad and know that I can post from it. Don’t know what happened. Oh well, I’ll make this the final of this trip.

Saturday night I came down after 9 pm and found out that I had won $100 slot play rather than the $50 that every entry received. It hadn’t been put on my card yet and since the table were crowded I decided to wait until Sunday morning to use the free play.

However, when I went down Sunday morning, my spot wasn’t available at the one open $10 table. I went to a VP quarter Bonus Poker game. Nothing showed up so I tried a regular slot game, but still nothing showed. Couldn’t find an attendant so went to Trop Award Card booth to see if they knew what my problem was. Only 1 attendant working and had to wait 10 minutes until my turn play. Long story short, she didn’t seem to know anything about VP winners, so after another 10 minutes, when she had tried to call someone I said I’d come back later.

Had some breakfast and since my spot was available, played some craps. Had a roll of 13 but lost money on it and a roll of eight that I made a little on, however next shooter had a good roll so I made money on the CFer and since the table had filled up left up 100+.

Was able to get the money to show up on my card and I played a single line VP Double Bonus game. When I have slot play, I play it through once and take my winning. Turned out I converted it into $120.

We decided to check out and move to Harrahs where Sally had a coupon for two nights and $25 of slot play from a mailer. Being a red chip player, I never get any mail coupons from the Casears properties.

Since it was too early to check in, we drove over to the LV Hilton. When I played a lot at Resorts in Tunica, we had stayed at LVH before, but not in the last three years since we moved to Los Angeles. I had forgotten how big that casino complex was.

Had rolls of 10 and 3 and lost money on both of those rolls. Followed with rolls of 18 and 22 and I was up 100+ and called it quits.

After checking in at Harrahs, I found a empty $5 table. Started out with a come out seven. That is my trigger to put a white down for the dealers. When the fire bet is available I give the dealers the choice of a $1 fire bet, or $1 pass line. Dealer chose the fire bet. I came right back with a natural 11, so the dealers would have had $2. I wound up with a throw of 25 but didn’t hit the fire bet that roll. I was up $100= and the table had several players so I checked out.

I sometime think I am like a shill getting the table started, but that’s the way I like to play.

One advantage of staying at Harrah is the there are 4 places to play craps to play a easy walk away. And this trip I played at all of them.. Actually if you count the table at the south door of Harrahs there are five places.

No empty tables at Harrahs so I walked though the Quad were they were two busy tables and o to Margaritta where I found my spot at a $5 table with one other player. I had rolls of 4, 15, 7, 4, 15, and 17. Two other CFers had come and gone, and I had lost money on the single digit rolls and won on the double digit rolls. A group of 5 CFers bought in during my last roll and was up a low double digit amount. Had to go over to Flamingo to cash my chips in.

Walked by and found an empty $5 table at Flamingo and started out with rolls of 9 and 5 both of which were losers but followed up with a roll of 28 and I was up 100+ and said enough.

After eating some Chinese for dinner I watched Sally hit a Royal on a single play quarter machine and she called it quits. I found an empty table at Harrahs. Rolled once for 12 and then moved to another table and rolled a 20 so I was up a high double digit amount.

Sunday we started off with a continuous slot tournament at the Quad and also visited the auto museum at the Quad. They said this was the largest collection of classic cars in the US. I think we spent about 1-1/2 hour and enjoyed it.

Rolled four times at the Quad and my last roll of 17 got me almost ever. Walked through Flamingo, Margaritta, Bally’s and Paris but didn’t find suitable playing conditions. Walked on to to Planet H. Table had more players than I like to play with, but Sally wanted to play VP. Had rolls of 5 and 12 and lost on both of them but made a little on a roll of 10 and was down a low double digits.

I was carrying on a discussion with the dealer and pit boss and the dealer made some comment to the effect that he hoped he was as active as I am when he was my age. Don’t know if I appreciated the comment or not.

On the way back to Harrahs played at Bally and shot three times, all single digit rolls, but hadn’t bet on any CFers and I was up a single digit when I left.

Played at Harrahs on the way to the room, rolled 5 times and was up a low double digit amount with the longest roll of 16. I went down later and Sally told me as I was leaving, "You need to win another $200 for us to have a round number of winnings to take home.

First table I found with my spot I had rolls of 10 and 5 and was up single digit on my rolls. However a guy SO was down to one chip and started his roll with just a pass line. Guy between me and the shooter had a $10 Fire bet plus $2 fire for the dealers. After the shooter had made 4 to the fire the guy next to me gave the shooter a green. When he came out on the fourth number, the guy started to lay the number, but before any rolls were made took the lay down. Shooter came out on the 5 for the fifth number and it took him eight numbers to make it. He came out on the 5 again and rolled it right back. Still needed the nine but came out on the 4 again and rolled two straight nines (the point) he needed and sevened out with a roll of 45. Longest roll I saw this trip.

I changed table again and had rolls of 2, 9, 18, 22, 3, 8, 22, 3 and 23. I had won more than Sally asked for just at this last table.

Stopped by Palms again Sunday morning and got in the hole with 4 single digit rolls bug eventually had rolls of 17 and 15 and left up a single digit. Had a fellow at the table with me, who was wild in his betting. Reminded me of some of the play described in the big money topic.

In summary, I rolled 117 times, made money of 61 of the rolls.
Had 339 come out rolls, had 73 natural winners and 39 craps, not quite the 2 to 1 ratio that would be random. That left 223 points I tried to make. and I made 112 of them which is better than expected. My SRR on my non come out rolls was 7.28.

So Yes I was pleased with my shooting and Sally was a winner on VP also.

Hope you enjoyed these reports.

Some things I remembered that I wanted to mention.

This set of rolls I rolled substantially more 5s than would be expected.

I generally don’t press the 5 much but at the Orleans once I was rolling so many that I had it up to a bet of $30. Tried to buy it, and eventually was told that I couldn’t buy it. (I expected to pay the vig up front.). Box man said they don’t have any buy buttons at the table. They auto buy the 4/10 at $10, vig pay only on wins.

While I rolled 118 different times, because of how I chose the tables to play on there were only 132 rolls made by CFers and about 40 of them didn’t qualify for me to bet on them.

I think the age comment was meant as a compliment. You and Sally sure get around.

Thanks for sharing your trip and I’m glad this one ended up on the positive side.

Always enjoy your reports. If Lois ever gets well enough to roll more we will have to get together again. It is very unpredictable as to when she feels like getting out.
