Learning Curve

Spread the love

After finishing the refresher ,I came home and practiced and practiced. I started well, within 3 weeks I started downhill. I started to adjust, tinker, change, and go away from what I had learned. Then I remembered Dom and the other instructors says trust your throw. So I quit tinkering and picked up the dice and just did it without overanalyzing or being disgusted. I’m better now, and seem to be progressing most of the time. I found this post by Dom in the GTC wisdom pages. Just wanted to let the newcomers know that most of their questions can be answered there.

The Learning Curve
Dominator

Remember in any learning curve, you have great improvement at first and then the improvement starts to level off and your improvement isn’t as dramatic. You might also find some drop in ability. What will happen is that the all of a sudden your improvement will get back to where it was and then some, so don’t fret!

think of a child first learning to talk, the words comeout like running water and the smiles on your kid’s face as they speak is exciting for them and for you. Then it slows down a bit. The same with learning a skill like Dice Control. This drop in improvement is the point where many say that I just can’t get better, or worse, it was just coincidence that it worked the first time.

So just keep practicing and you will see the improvement grow again.

I would be interested in hearing what has happened to the learning curve of some of our recent students

TommyC,

Thanks for posting this. Everyone on this board can learn from what you and Dom posted. You are correct in that "trust your throw" is most important. Your ability to be "perfect" will come and go as you will have ups and downs with the winning sessions netting you much more than the losing sessions in the long run. The reason for a 401G bank roll is to sustain you in these ups and downs.

Don’t get discouraged. Time is on your side. You will succeed. You have a great throw.

See you in Vegas.

Hey Tommy;
I will be in Vegas for the refresher in about 8 days. I too have my ups and downs like Doc says. I have just kept my nose to the grindstone and I’m a grinder that just won’t quit. I really look forward to some constructive feedback from the refresher and at the same time I trust what Smart Craps has been telling me. I do get tired of the roller coaster but with anything, I think you have to be mentally tough. I have passed pro1 and pro2 now. I have a decent toss but it is so humbling at times. I am an average grunt with a great work ethic. I hope that counts for something. I know I have benefited a great deal from the posts of more experienced players and sometimes it’s just a tiny bit of info that brings things into a different perspective. My 401G is still intact and I’m ready for the next step. Thanks for your post. I’m really excited about Vegas and seeing the gang again.
