Celebration for Moulin Rouge: This Thursday, May 23, the downtown’s Neon Museum is hosting a commemorative evening in honor of the 58th anniversary of the opening of the historic Moulin Rouge, Las Vegas’ first non-segregated casino. The Moulin Rouge was demolished in 2010, having been derelict for many years, after it was badly damaged by a fire, but the museum’s Neon Boneyard is home to its famous sign, designed by legendary local Betty Willis, who was also responsible for the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign and the much-loved Blue Angel Motel statue. Thursday’s event, which will feature several noted local historians and excerpts from a new documentary about the Moulin Rouge, is free and open to the public, but guests are requested to RSVP to Events@NeonMuseum.org. Doors at 5:50 p.m.; event starts at 6 p.m.
