My wife has always felt i was a few bricks short of a full load. Now
she is careful not to be to direct in how she reacts to stuff, maybe
just a "huh" or shaking her head and walking away, now and then a "what
in the hell are you doing" but nothing really serious, she says she would not
want to retard my mental growth …. 😮
But the other night i got a new facial expression from her, i am not sure
what it means…. and i am not sure i want to know,,,,
But she came down to my office and I was practicing my throw with marshmellows.
She really did not say anything, she just left. 😆 😆
I have to admit i am more than just a little nervous about diclosing on this site
what i am doing. But you have put up with me so far.
We play here on a couple of tubs, one is a decent bounce , the other is bouncy.
I have found that i must get rid of as much tension in my arm and shoulder as
possible to allow the dice to land softly enough. I have thought many times it is
like throwing nothing, you know you practice swing with no dice is like golf
swing with no ball, it is always perfect. Pick up the dice or address the ball and
stuff changes.
Throwing with those small marshmellows gives me that same feeling, throwing with
something that feels like nothing. Now for all you House fans on TV, that is what is
cancer, but not cancer…
Before i practice with the dice, i throw half dozen or so throws with the marshmellows.
If i can throw soft enough to allow the marshmellows to react like dice, then my
throw with the dice is soft as well.
This seems to be helping me soften my toss.
Opps front door just closed, hope she does not have a suitcase.

You can eat them after the toss because they will be nice and toasted.

A+ for creativity.
If you feel the marshmallow drill is helping you achieve a soft throw, more power to you!!
Thanks for the post..!

What I really like about this post is the "out of the box" thinking. Without it, Edison wouldn’t have invented the light bulb!
I got to put marshmallows on my grocery list today!

Your response is close to what my wife had 😆 😆 😆
But to be honest i felt it helped. Saturday we hit that small bouncy table, and they
had placed a new felt so it was to be honest terrible. But Saturday i managed 5
rolls between 20-25, Carlito had a 24 and a 37 and Dave had a 38 …
Sunday was a different story, i am not sure but the SRR for the table was 2.
Now i admit i played a little more Sunday than i should have, but i dont have
anything to duplicate this bounce at home, and i felt i needed to be able to
adjust to this in order to say i am really ok at dice control.
The problem i and maybe we had was that a number of times the dice would hit 3-4 inches in
front of the wall and one would stop or both, right there or bounce back and it was a no roll,
i have no idea how many winners we had like that. if you took more spin of the dice, it was harder
to get them to go straight back to the wall. NOw here is the thing, this is a player
friendly crew, and if you play from stick left 1 on this tub you are only throwing 3-4 feet, maybe
5 from closer to the hook. If your arm extends over the half way point they dont say anything,
But the dice were so slippery you had to have a very soft swing so the dice
left together and you had a decent rotation with both dice staying together before they hit the table.
If you hit the crease where the side wall and table met you were screwed….if you hit to far back your
dice stopped and you were screwed. Most of the tosses were good, but if you were a tad off you
paid for it.
I have had some nice wins here and i really want to figure this out. We get good comps and it has
good food (New York strip BUffet only $13.95.) free rooms and bus trip… and i know you cant win
all the time, but i sorta like to feel like i have more control over my dice than the table has.
I was thinking about headed to Turtle lake this week, but after Sunday i may go fishing.

Could you build or have built a small travel receiving station (one that sits on a table top or bed, etc.and breaks down into pieces because of magnets) that would mimic this tables characteristics? That way you could intersperse your practice at home with it and from any distance you needed by sitting it on your current receiving station. Also, you could take it on the overnights to that casino and practice in the room if things were a little off that day.
Just a thought. 🙂

I have plans drawn up for a throwing station that is adjustable and mounts on the back of a hotel room chair. The unit will fit in my briefcase for travel. I used to carry a small receiving station to prop up on the bed with pillows and practiced throwing to it. But, realized it is the set, grip and throw and what the dice look like in the air that needs to be refreshed and practiced before heading to a table. The dice landing on the bed – well, if you can’t hit the bed with the dice that’s a problem for a different day.
Gman, thanks for the practice idea. T Set44 😀 😀 😀

I could guess on the likely reasons for what you’ve described, but probably best not to speculate on these things, especially on our boards.
From your post I can say that you’ve clearly moved beyond the basics of what is taught in the Primer classes and reinforced in the Refresher classes.
What struck me was that the things you’ve described in your post and want to figure out are a large part of what Billy The Kid and No Field Five teach in GTC’s Advanced class.
Specifically, the Advanced class topics include how handle various table conditions, the different types of shots needed to do so, different ways to add or remove revolutions to the dice, how to improve your practice time and how to self-critique and grade the various components of the throws in your skill-set.
BTK and NFF both strive for excellence, and just as they do in the Video Analysis, their experience allows them to quickly analyze and customize their instruction to fit the Advanced student’s specific needs. They will call it like they see it. Moving to this level is not for everybody and is not to be rushed.
But the Advanced class might be a really good fit for you given the points and questions raised in your post.
Maybe others who have taken the Advanced class will add their thoughts to this discussion…
Keep ’em coming, Gman. Your posts are always an interesting read!!

Don’t forget that the marshmellows go good on sweet potatoes and in hot chocolate. Let’s see, get up early in the morning, make some hot chocolate, practice with the marshmellows and then put them in your chocolate. What a way to start the day.
