AC Dice Class…..some tip for visitors

Spread the love

For those of you visiting AC next month, here are some tips from a New Jersey "local".

MUST DO::

Casino – Visit REVEL it is really an amazing place. It is huge with an amazing casino. every game you can imagine and some of the best dealers around. They also have 9/6 Video Poker.

People watch – take a daytime stroll on the boardwalk (weather permitting) you will see some very interesting characters

BLACKJACK

Borgata has some of the best rules and penetrations. Just look at the table rules, as they vary.
They also always have one $5 table

SHOPPING

There are loads of "outlet" stores in town. The shopping area is located near the center of town on the boardwalk side is very safe.

NIGHTLIFE:

For the younger set there is so much, Mur Mur at Borgata, The Pool at Harrahs and just about any place at Revel on a Saturday Night.

For those a little older there is Boogie Nights at at Tropicana. This is the disco music of the 70’s and 80’s

Ivan Kane’s Royal Jelly is located inside the Revel. A burlesque dancer is performing on an elevated stage outside to entice players sitting in the casino

Check with your hotel or the "AC Weekly" website to see if your favorite entertainer is in town. atlanticcityweekly.com

Comedy Club – Borgata has a good Comedy Club and if you have played there in the past getting comp tickets is pretty easy.

POOLS (Indoor)

Best is a probably Harrahs, a close second is a tie between Borgata and Revel

LODGING "VALUE"

AC is expensive on a weekend, no doubt, but the Atlantic Club (Former Hilton) has some decent deals. You may also want to check out the website for ACHOTELEXPERTS.COM

PARKING

When you park in AC you can use the receipt to park for free in another hotel (the

************************ DINING **************

CHEESE STEAK

Tony Baloney’s Pizza (300 Oriental, near Revel) Do yourself a favor, take a break from the WhiteHouse and try this. The Cheeses Steak Ole’ is the winner of the Food Network – Guy Fieri (Dinners Drive throughs and Dives) BEST Cheese steak. It is a Cheese steak that is spiced up a bit. Trust me on this one

PIZZA

Again it is Tony Baloney’s. Mike the owner has come up with some amazing concoctions.
My favorite is the "Shit Faced" It is beer battered chicken with cheddar cheese and Honey BBQ rather than tomato sauce. Amazing
Another Scan fav is the "Yenta" this is a Ruben Sandwich on a pizza. I want a slice now!
Tip – they deliver to your hotel if you want a snack.
Menu is at TONYBALONEYS.COM

HERO

Earl of Sandwich
I am a sandwich snob so i prefer to get my Heroes from a really good italian deli but many people rave about Earl of Sandwich. This Chain, which people also vist in Vegas, is now in the Showboat. I tried it. it was ok. I thought the sandwich was very small for the price. If you like it in Vegas you will like it here.
The White House
Now with two locations. Missippi Ave and at Trump Taj. Please do not attack me here but 😆 …. but. Sorry to say in my opinion overrated and over hyped. However many people, ( just look at yhe long line) including lots and lots of my GTC friends 😀 absolutely love this place. I think it is just ok, at best.
I much prefer some thing like,a crispy loaf of NY Italian bread with prosciutto di Palma, capicola, fresh homemade creamy mozzarella, a few sun dried tomatoes and a layer fire roasted peppers, with just the slightest hint of balsamic. That, my friends is a hero….. But you ain’t getting it in AC…. Sorry 😥
Tip- i know you guys are still going to go 😀 so keep in mind .. When you order let the guy making the sandwich see you are going to tip. You will get a very filled hero.

FOOD COURT

Borgata. It is located on the lowest level, below the poker room. Standard food court vendors, it is very clean. What sets it apart is it has a FAT BURGER Franchise. Good burger!

STEAKHOUSE

I like many, Old Homestead in Borgata, The Palm in Tropicana, also Mortons and Ruth’s Criss

NON CASINO RESTAURANTS:
Chef Vola, Docks Oyster House, Cafe 2825
Tomatoes (this is in Margate not too far from AC)

Words of warning;

Be smart! AC (like many places including Las Vegas) has a criminal element that lurks on the shadows waiting for it’s prey. If you are smart you have nothing to fear. Do not walk the boardwalk late at night. Do not try to save a few dollars by walking the miles long trip from the boardwalk casinos to the marina district. Do not engage with panhandlers. When you go up to your room if you feel someone is following you go back to the elevator and have security paged. Do not flash a wad of bills and then walk alone to the parking lot. Stay away from any young lady at the bar that seems as thought she is so interested in every word you have to say 🙄
There is no need to fear for your safety if you just use common sense.

Any questions I am happy to try to answer them

Scan, thank you for this input. We were with Mrs. Finesse at some local samdwich/sub shop. It was really small (about 4 tables) but at lunch time it was really crowded. The food was really excellent. We belileve the name was White House but we are not sure. It was just off the boardwalk a couple of blocks. Let us know if the name is correct.

Hope to see you in AC

Doctor C… I have to broaden your taste horizons… 😀 😀

You need a visit to NYC

Get a hero at Mamma’s a/k/a Leo’s Latticini
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserRevi … _York.html

Then after the hero you can go for an Italian ice (please do not call it a "water ice" 🙄 😀 ). At the Ice King of Corona
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R … _York.html.

This is the ice place you see Doug and Carrie at in the opening of each episode of "King of Queens"

Follow that with a NY Mets game at nearby CitiField

That, is a good day.

I went to Chef Vola on our yearly summer trip 2 years ago – very good, unless you are a big eater plan on a doggy bag and cash only no credit cards.

Tony Baloney’s Pizza – drive or take a cab. We started to walk there from Reval and this summer and decided not a good idea.

Scan,

Thanks for the heads up on Tony Baloney’s. I love the white house because it’s like the cheese steaks that I grew up on in Pa but I’m certainly willing to try Tony’s on your recommendation.

GETTING AROUND

Jitney

AC has a great Jitney service. There are four separate routes. (See website below). It is cheap only $2.25 per person and if you are a senior it is only .75 cents!!! The senior fare requires ticket prepay.
There is also a service from the airport
JitneyAC.com

Taxi cabs

Taxi are a good way to get around if you are in a hurry remember the max a cab can charge in AC is $13

If you like Italian food check out Angelo’s, just south of where (on the right)as the ac expressway enters town. Artic and Mississiipii I think.Vic and Anthony’s Steakhouse at the Golden Nuggett is very good.

Posted by: Scan on February 16, 2013, 4:26 pm

William RF

Two great points. Thanks for adding them. Any other AC players with a tip?

Posted by: billythekid on February 18, 2013, 10:04 pm

William,
I have tried Angelo’s twice and have had great meals ther both times. I think that the last time that I was there it was with the beautiful Goddess and her support team Sandtrap so we had good company too! Great tip for the AC newcomers.

Comps

The comp system at RESORTS is linked with Connecticut’s MOHICAN SUN Casino

Posted by: GameDay on February 24, 2013, 2:36 pm

Lets not forget an all time favorite. A Nathans Hot Dog. On the boardwalk.
Vic and Anthony’s at the GN is a great restaurant. Steaks are top notch. Service is amazing. And they usually have a wine special where one 100+ bottle is on sale for the night. Usually a great choice at a decent price.

Tip

Room Reservation

Do NOT stay at Bally’s. They will screw you with a room.
If you are not Diamond or 7 Stars they will put you in the old Claridge Hotel tower.
You do not want to be there. No amount of screaming at the deal clerk will change it.

AC. tip

ROLLING CHAIRS

The boardwalk has rolling chairs with people to push you from place to place. If walking is difficult for you this is a good option for getting around.

There is a posted price in the cart. This is only SUGGESTED.

The price is very negotiable. Feel free to HAGGLE.

Also these guys will undercut each other so make sure you speak loud enough for the other guys to hear.

WARNING. Make sure the price is for ALL riders. An unscrupulous pusher may try to scam you at the end NY saying he was quoting per person.

Have fun!

You are the best, I just want to hang with you in NY for a few days and hit all the great sandwich places.

But I think you must me mistaken about the girls in the bar. Jo-lynn told me that I am the most interesting man she had ever met. It has to be true Nes Pa?

BTW, check your pvt box.

Reposting this for 2014.

All still relevant.

Tony Boloney still there. They just opened a 2nd location in The hot and hip city of Hoboken.

Make your restaurant reservations as soon as possible. Weekends can book fast at Docks Oyster House or Chef Vola.

New to AC? You must see Revel.

Posted by: T-Burg on February 22, 2014, 12:01 am

Scan,
You re letting the Chef Vola secret out?
Our group has eaten there many times, and each time it gets better.
One word of caution, make sure you have a reservation well in advance or you will get shut out.
And of course as Scan told you it is a cash only, don’t even think about a credit card place.

May the dice be with you

Posted by: Scan on February 22, 2014, 10:53 am

T-Burg

We have talked about Chef Vola here before. In fact a few GTCers went there a few years back.

Actually CV has dropped somewhat on my favorites list. I am currently more into Docks Oyster House, maybe it is because it is over 100 years old and it has that whole "Boadwak Empire" feel. Without a doubt the real characters from that show ate there.
As a matter of fact they filmed an episode, this season in, the sister restaurant to Docks. It was at "the Knife and Fork" another place that has been there for a century.
