I am trying to get better at the game and capitalize on long runs. I would describe my game as conservative and I’m not a dice controller (although I try)…so keep that in mind. My normal craps play is betting min $5 pass line, taking 1x odds. Once I get a feel for the table and things are running well, I will place either the 6 or 8 for $6 especially if the point is 6 or 8. I’ve been known to place both the 6 & 8 once I feel comfortable and the shooter has a decent throw. Last time I played, I did place the 5 or 9 a couple of times and even went to $12 on the 6 or 8. I usually sacrifice my odds bet though because losing $30-$40 with one 7 kind of sickens me.
I also dabble in the Field on tables that have the 2.7% house edge….but generally only on the crazy random rollers. I know everyone disagrees with this but sometimes I get "bored" and like the action. 2.7% isn’t that bad.
I need some help with a conservative, simple to remember, press strategy for my game. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

I would also suggest you stay away from placing the 5 and/or 9 as tghe 4% vig is way too high to over come and will eat up your bank roll in a big hurry.
I won’t bore you with all the details of The Big Skinny (TBS) as you can search this board for the postings of TBS writted by, who else but Skinny himself.
From your posting I assume you have not taken the class. If you want to become an advantage player, I would certainly suggest that you take the class. The schedule in on our web page. You sound like someone who would benefit from the class and be an asset to GTC.
Hope that Alligator Rose and I can meet you in person in the future.

"Dr Crapology" wrote: Code, Alligator Rose and I are also pretty conservative. May I suggest The Big Skinny. It is a conservative pass line/come line betting system with a little placing of the 6 and the 8. You can make bets any size that you and your bank roll will allow. We usually make three bets (a pass line bet with 2 come bets) going with more come bets as the roll progresses. In other words we are progressing out to new numbers not increaing the numbes we already have. As the roll progresses we will increase our bets on existing numbers.

Doc / Skinny, no I haven’t taken the class. I have watched the Golden Craps Video though and have one of Frank’s books. I try to mimic the grip and throw. I do set the dice with the 3V, hardway and all seven sets at the table and have been experimenting with the sets vs outcome. I also try to mimic the grip and throw. For example, with the 3V set, I tend to hit 6s quite frequently…enough that it surprises me. The problem is that I am about 2.5 hrs from the nearest casino and don’t get to gamble near as much as I would like. If visited the casino more, I would definitely look into taking the class and practicing.
The only time that I place the 5 and 9 is when someone is on long roll and the 5 and 9 keeps hitting. So don’t think it’s something I do all the time…just on occasion when the table is right. I’m an engineer and have an engineering mind. I’m totally in tune with playing the best odds for each game I play. I treat it like a business. No alcohol and try to take as much money and comps each time I go to the casino.
I will read up on The Big Skinny. I like the progression of covering the other numbers, then increasing the bets. Thanks!

Here is my penny’s worth .
First you only need to place a pass line bet when you roll and the roll before yours .
So now you can save that little for a place bet or come bet. Most on this site will say after the 5 count .But you want action so I suggest that you do both. One come bet and one place bet if the point is 6 or 8 .If the point is not a 6 or 8 wait till the 5 count then make one come bet.
So now you are either with no bets till the 5 count or one bet ( place ) and one bet (come ). If 7 comes even . If a crap number rolls you are in the red by one bet .If a box number rolls not being the point or your place number do 1x odds and wait for win. After you win make another bet till you have 2 x your bets. Then start going to 2x on your come bets .After you do 2x on those wins then go to 3x odds. You will get to the 5 or 9 on a long roll some time . So you wont need to place them. What you want is repeat numbers with come bets.
There is no system that works .But once you make a pass line bet it stays up till you win or loose it .You can take down that place bet any time you want so after your come bet goes to a number you can change to one bet instead of two . For every bet its another game.
I tired the one bet game one time . Picked the 8 as the number and it took 4 rollers rolling 42 numbers to hit it. That was not fun but did stick to the game plan till I hit it.
Try different betting ways at home first then stick to what works best for you. You are the only one that can decide THAT.
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

I follow Stickman’s up a unit. Basically you take hits on your passline and or place bets and rack the money until you have as much in your rack as you have on the table. Then go up a unit each hit thereafter. Search this site and you will find Stickman’s tables. If it is a long run there is a point where you should change to a press and take progression but those don’t come along very often. See the tables for yourself and make your betting progressions accordingly.

I’m also very new at this, now I’m hooked as will you be I’m sure.
Here is my 2Cents worth, first of all listen to everything these guys tell ya they know what their talking about.
Further I read that you’ve watched the videos and your trying to mimic the grip & throw?
I would strongly suggest you read the books written by Frank Scoblette extremely helpful and extremely well written. Trust me until the class comes around these books will help you.
That’s all I got bud!
Good luck

It is good to see you on the board, Asking questions is also a good way to learn. I also have about 2 and 1/2 hour drive to play.
I make that drive very often so the casino knows me well. Well enough they won’t allow me to shoot unless I have a bet working at all times.
The five count can not be used in this circumstance so I had to come up with something else. Because I have to have a bet on all shooters I place
a $12 six, thats it. Collect the first hit and you made a big $2.00 on that shooter. If you are lucky and get more hits on the six collect a second hit. Begin
a up one unit with the third hit. Of course the best plan is no bet on these random shooters. Next best five count before one come bet. after all these are random shooters and the goal is to not lose money. If you win anything it is just luck.
Now for your own shot the goal is different and the bets are as well. I now like to place the 6 & 8 for $30 each. ($12 each if thats where you are comfortable) The progression goes to $42, $60, $90, $120 , ect. ($18, $30 $60 if starting at $12). What I have found is my money is better off on the 6 & 8 than scattered across the other numbers. The HA is low and I tend to hit these numbers a lot. It does not take many hits for the bets to grow pretty quickly. This is not as effective as "the Big Skinney" but does work well for me.
Good Rolling

Another alternative is you can start with a minimum bet on both the 6 and 8 and when one hits go to one bet on either number with the minimum bet of $5 or $10 and you are a few dollars ahead.
Since you have to make a bet on these CR’ers, another good idea is to make a pass line bet with single odds and simply stay there. The house vig is a little lower on the pass line than the place bets above but any of these will help keep your losses to a minimum.
You do have to be patient when they are rolling whether you use the 5 count or not. Mr Finesse always says I am not in the casino to make money on the ploppies, but to make money on myself and other control shooters.
Just my random thorughs.
Hope it helps.
Hope to meet you in the casino soon.
