Craps

Caesars Ent. Seems to get the comp game right.

Spread the love

There is an attachment to an article at the end.
Getting comps is not always easy even if you are a high roller.

Let’s face it, when a company wants to cut expenses and a casino executive who is not from the casino world is in charge, they only see free "stuff" going out and nothing to show for it.

But comping is more of an art than that. It was really mastered by an innovator in the late 80’s and early 90’s by a realtivly young and ambitious Steve Cyr (read the book about him, Whale Hunt in the Dessert). Cyr believed in giving the comp upfront and developing players into loyal customers. He was instrumental in getting very large whales to come and play at the Las Vegas Hilton, a property that is way off the strip and not on anybody’s high end plush hotel list. But he got them to come over and spend very large amounts of money, at times a million dollars per hand, and kept them coming back. He was able to do this because he gave so much away and "wowing" his high end clients and making them feel special. Lets face it, a multi-millionaire that has a mansion is not impressed by a 2,000 square foot suite. So Cyr had Hilton build these massive 10,000 square foot apartments on the top floors. Some as large as 16,000 square feet. He would send the corporate jet to pick up a client anywhere in the US, he would go personally and pick them up. He would grant very large credit lines, he would splurge for million dollar shopping sprees at Bloomingdale’s so that the whales wife had something to do while he was gambling, and also so that she would not stand over him and wonder where all the money was going.

Even large brands like the Bellagio have lost the comping touch. They make their customers feel small and uncomfortable. A businessman who is otherwise successful and affluent, a black chip player, is made to ask for comps rather than be given the comp up front and thanked for being a loyal customer. This small distinction is what will turn this affluent businessman from a casual player to a happy and loyal returning customer, and not just a customer but maybe a Connector or a Maven.

Caesars’ loyalty program has been able to turn the clocks back to the days when players were developed and values are given to the future potential of players. A player is made welcome to be on the property and having a meal on the house before a dollar is spent on any game, (bringing back memories of how things were at Jack Binion’s Horseshoe in Tunica MS).

I don’t buy it. Loveman is the one responsible for destroying the comp system for table players.

The article might apply to $10 slot players, but that is it. If you are a table games player, you best beg!

The comps and comping generosity (or lack of it) at Caesar’s Entertainment properties varies somewhat depending on what property, what part of the country and what Caesar’s Entertainment region the property is in.

"Whales" aside, discretionary comping is pretty much history. If you don’t have the points on your card you’ll be paying for your meal.

But the truth is, the "free" buffets were never "free" to begin with…

With apologies to the other Ivy League MBA beancounters out there, Loveman’s myopic view of gaming has little to do with enhancing the "customer experience" and everything to do with insuring the fools and their money are soon parted. Loveman isn’t satisfied with getting ALMOST all of the monies wagered in his properties. He wants it ALL

Another major difference from the "good ol’ days" is that there is now publicly traded gaming sector stock and quarterly dividends to be considered. BS aside, "free" and enhancing stock performance don’t mix real well…

One thing is certain – Loveman sets the tone at Caesar’s Entertainment and he can read a spreadsheet with the best of them…

If he has his way, Caesar’s Entertainment properties will soon be filled with nothing but slot machines with unplayable payout schedules and high house edge "carnival" table games.

Has anyone else noticed a particular Caesar’s Entertainment property in Las Vegas that not too long ago had 12 craps tables is now down to just two?

You don’t have to employ dealers to run slot machines… 😐

Newsflash Folks Ceasars is owned by Harrahs last time I checked. Played 22 hours over a few days at one of their properties in Vegas. Got $8 in comps. Yes. You read that right. Will never go back to any of their properties ever, for any reason. Absolutely completely blown away by that arrogant move. I had three friends with me that got the same BS and witnessed what happened to me at checkout. I went to a host to get it verified. My friends got the same. I believe that now all they care about are slot players, period.

I have nothing but animosity towards Harrah’s. I prefer to play at casinos not associated with that company.

This is a very interesting thread.

Alligator Rose and I just came back (last night) from a Caesars’ property 3 night comped and meals—not the steakhouse, but anything we wanted in the coffee shop and buffet which is fine with us. We aren’t big eaters anyway. This was all up front.

Later this month right before Christmas during a dead time in Vegas, we are comped into a high end Carsars strip property for 3 nights. All this this is up front. Sometimes picking the right time of the year gets you the best opportunity for comps.

We are by no means big betters. We play primarily table games–craps and BJ–with a little full pay VP thrown in as a bonus and relaxation. That’s it. When I say we are not big betters. at craps we usually bet the minimum passline bet with full odds (assume 3, 4,5 max odds) with the occasional placing of the 6 and/or 8. And yes we will press our bets as rolls continues. At BJ a $25 table does not scare us. This may be a little too large for some people but it is am amount that our 401G allows.

I used to say i would never go to a Harrah’s property, but for this couple it seems to be working——-for now anyway.

We are not looking for everything to be free as this can cause one to over bet his or her ability and bankroll. We just want competitive discounted rooms and meals where possible. I will never again lose $2000 to get $20 gree buffet—it is cheaper to simply pay for it. And we do from time to time.

Just our $.02 worth.

Harrahs is owned by Caesars Entertainment Corp CZR on the NYSE Closed Nov 30, at $6.10. It had an IPO in March of 2012 around $14.00 a share, after Harrahs was bought out by private equity in 2007 or 2008 with hugh debt. Check their web site for a list of all their properties caesars.com.

It’s a business and for gamblers losing most of the time, comps are the boobie prize. Comps are not an entitlement for gambling, win or lose. Back in the day comps were an appreciation for playing at a club and had a real personal touch to them, although I wasn’t Mr. Big I did receive some of that attention for playing and it was nice. Now with corporate in charge it’s all the bottom line. I haven’t gone especially out of my way for them and now definitely don’t because of the hoops you have to jump through or feeling that my patronage deserves some high recognition. I’m happy with getting discounted room rates and maybe a comped night or two for loyaly rewards and I look for that to make my stay more economical. I’m there to kick them in the nuts anyway, and THAT’S my (business) mission statement. 😎 😎

I was just reading on Trip Advisor of a New Ceasars Policy in AC

Charge of $10-$50 to check IN before 4PM

Shortsighted stupid policy if you ask me

Everone will be lined up ay 4PM

People will come later and spend the afternoon gambling or dining

I used to be a dedicated MGM customer. The wife and I would hardly eer have to pay for a room. Rafter and I would go and stay for free most of the time, with the occasional "casino rate" during the busy seasons. Once the City Center fiasco, and recession plastered the planet with debt, M Life was born……and comps dried up. It was easy to figure out why.

Once that dried up the TR stuff started heating up and soon we were not paying for rooms with the Caesars bunch. To this day it stays that way and I’m a couple of trips away from Diamond. I don’t think I’ll get there as I’m not going as often as in the past and will probably be lucky to stay Platinum.

The wife and I keep getting offers and comps, and as B-Man stated, we too just book online and its comped. I do agree that the comp days are getting scarcer and will someday be a perk only for those hat loose considerable cash. We play craps, pai gow, VP, and she plays some slots. I’m not naive, the comps are not coming from table game play. As Rafter and I were told about five years ago……keep sending the free rooms and we’ll keep coming…..not necessarily in that order.

Regards,
SE

our local casino host has turned into a high roller host.

we used to get some pretty good deals to AC or Tunica, never really to vegas. Now and then
we get a two for one package .

in Lafl we get every thing paid at DL on the end and on the Other end at H’s
we get two for $370. with our host, makes no sense. We dont care except some
of our friends seem to get rated much higher and take the other trips.

At vegas Ceasars seems to be fair , we get all the free rooms we can use and some
good help with the food , but have to pay the air. this spring we stayed 8 days
in a row and paid nothing for the rooms and little for the food.

I am playing alot more poker now than craps and sue is table games and to many
slots.

I would think the more i play poker the fewer comps we will get,

The Great gift wrap had lots of people there.
Who else does some thing like this ?

My wife and I used to be loyal Harrah’s customers. Due to my wife’s slot play we were Platinum card holders. Wewill lose that this year since we have not played at one of thier propertys in a year. Last year I took a three day stay to do an experiment. Each day while my wife was at the pool I would go to a kiosk, check my tier points then play a few hours of craps or black jack. The following day I would check my tier points and noticed the even though I was betting $25 per and at blackjack for a few hours my tier point increase was negligable. It turned out my wife playing th 25c slots for an hour increased our tier more than my table play. Still I could go online and get comp’d into a room for several nights a month. I don’t play for comps any more. I play where the craps tables suit me and I have a host who will comp me into a room a couple times a month. I get a free show every once in a while and pay for my food. My wife likes the fact that if she plays video poker at the bar at this property she gets free drinks that are good drinks. At Harrahs they stopped giving free drinks at the bar and the drinks they were giving were not very good, my wife’s judgement. When I got the mailer about the tier increases we decided to drift away from the total rewards program. It’s all about slot play with them. One of our friends goes to the local Harrahs property to play slots alot and gets trip offers occasionally but I get the sense she feels it would have been cheaper to just pay for the trip.

There is a lot of math guys on this site so most should know how this works. I have found that IF you want points at craps you need to play the new machines that they have .
You may think that I am crazy but just do the math it does not lie.
LOOK into it before you start ranting .
Just my .01 worth . But I am not a math guy just being real .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀
