Last Sunday I heard of an interesting turn of events. September 14th was to have been the date for the start of player controlled bets but a dealer informed me it had been postponed. He didn’t know why.
At this point I can only offer conjecture but I believe it was my appearance in front of the Colorado Gaming Commission. I stated that I believed that the Commission had failed in its fiduciary duty regarding player controlled bets and the Commission chair turned red and said he was "offended" by my strong remark. (he must be a democrat-HA) I haven’t had the time to follow this up yet but will do so shortly.
I offered an alternative plan to replace their original wording. The week following I received a phone call from the Gaming Division and my proposal was being brought to the attention of the casino owners for their input. I must have gotten their attention! They have an association of casino owners and they work together to promote gambling, rules and etc.
There will be more to come!

In a nut shell a "Player Controlled" Tipping bet is exactly that. You have made a bet to tip the dealers/crew but you control what happens to it after being resolved in its favor. The most common, I believe, would be a Place bet for the dealers
You give the dealer $6 and tell him this is for the crew, Placed on the 6/8, but you will control it. In essence maintaining ownership of it. He and the other members of the crew and Box monster now know that after a win they can’t take the bet and win straight to the toke box. You have control over it AND the win as well. The dealer will ask you what to do with both. I usually start a pull and press routine.
The same can be done on almost all bets other that the one timers.

If the casino says you can’t control the bet, just put the bet on top of your bet and throw the dealers the win for that bet. That bet then stays up on top for the duration of your hand. Again, you are only making one bet.

One dealer says the roller can give the bet to me . Another says that it is the high rollers money and he should have the call. Well after all this I needed up rolling one number and 7 out so it did not matter and did not know the out come. Since I was busy trying to explain to everybody on my side of table what was going on.
This was my first time in AC and was not relaxed shooting with so much distraction. Another thing was that I felt like I was at a high rollers table. I think I was the only one that bought in for 200 most bought in in the 5,000 range.
The action was VARY slow with all kinds of bets. The pit person came out to talk to the high roller about his bets and it took 3 -4 min for a roll. ( crazy ) Even some of the other high rollers were getting mad.
So who gets to say about bet?
After you make it for some one else do you loose control of it or is it like a dealers bet if you say you want to control it or ?. I think the high roller wanted the roller to have it but he gave up the dice so he was mad too.
HELP.

I personally don’t say, "this bet is for the dealers and I control it". If I want to bet the 6 or 8 for the dealers I just put that bet on top of mine and throw the win to the dealers. My tipping for the dealers is always on the passline and most of you know how I do that.

They allowed the high roller to make a hard way bet for the DP shooter. He should be allowed to make a bet for Finisher as well. It was foolish for them to have a big debate over a non contract wager.
As we have said before, the casino personnel are not rocket scientists. This is another example of that fact.

No rocket scientist on the other side of the table there!

The extra dollar is your bet and you can do whatever you want with the extra dollar and the winning dollar when it hits. They were effectively saying you could not increase your bet. You found a casino that did not want you to bet more money!!!

We need to remind ourselves that they may not even know how to play craps.
When was the last time you asked one .When was the last time he or she played craps or have they ever?
We just assume that they DO.

Colorado casinos don’t like piggy backing because here they cannot pay less than (for example) 7/6 on the six or eight. Therefore a $7 bet must pay $9 rather than $8 since 7/6 cannot be paid out properly they must pay up with the nearest denomination chip which in most places is $1 (a fraction is not payable so they must pay the extra cents to make the $1 chip). This is how the law is written. Currently if you make a $1 bet on a place bet the casino pays $2 to the dealer but takes my $1 down making me put up another from my bankroll or from my win.
I am confident that this will change sooner than later here. I have only done what I have to benefit the dealers but it also benefits the players by not having to take money from our bankroll to re-finance dealer bets every time there is a win. My proposal will also be easier on the enforcement end for the Division of Gaming and is easy for the dealers to understand. It will also benefit visitors to Colorado when it comes to understanding dealer bets. Feels to me like a win-win-win situation.
As I offered in my change to the dealer bet rule it will not take an act of the legislature to change dealer bets. This all happened when limited gaming came to Colorado in 1992. They never anticipated having craps or roulette. Tips in blackjack were a little different in that we had a $5 max bet and any tip for the dealer was just that, a tip. You couldn’t piggy back because of the $5 max. However, up until a year ago casinos accepted player controlled bets but the Attorney Generals office examined those bets and said they were illegal.
Now a bet for the dealers will be acceptable because it will be treated just like any other player bet because it is a player bet with intention to give to the dealers. Some stupid ass will come along and not give it to the dealers but I think that will be a rarity. At any rate most dealer bets here are $1 either on the pass line or as a place or hardway bet.
When the Gaming Division came out and said no player controlled dealer bets the dealers lost about 35% of their tip income. We have pretty good dealers here, yes there are some assholes and some miserable box critters too but the rest are just working stiffs like me. I want to help them which also helps me a little too.

Part of the reason we tip is to get the crew on our side, we win, they win. Boxmen might give us more leeway or at least courtsey if they see we are taking care of the crew.
When I color up I will usually place $1 on the passline and maybe $2 for odds (after the point) when I leave. I’m not sure but I’m guessing if the next shooter throws craps on the comeout the crew just drops the odds in the toke box.

I place $1 on top of my line bet and next to it and never have had to say anything in anyplace i have ever played.
I am am doing great on a roll i can increase that and take odds for the crew.
I see players try to make other tip bets and announce player control. I think that is a nice gesture, but it seems
to mess up the game more times than not when the player trys to explain what he is doing. About two months
ago a guy bought in during a decent roll i was having and and immedately placed all the hardways for $10
and on and on . He had been watching and i guess i threw a couple of 8’s in row or something. he then announced
$1 hardways player control , the dealer could not figure out what was going on , he placed $1 next to each hard
ways.. that was wrong, then the player said no no, on top and the dealer placed all four on the top of one
hardway and the player said no no, and the pit boss came over and said you cant have player control on the
hardways bets, and the player was upset…. in the mean time i am sitting there waiting to continue what was a
promising roll…..
for me it is keep it simple…. i am not there to see how many ways i can find to tip the dealers, i am there to play
the game and hopefully make enough that i can tip in a reasonable way.

The way you handle the dealer bets ($1 on top and $1 beside) is the simplest way to do it. Nothing needs to be said and the dealers immediately know you are betting for them. Also, most dealers prefer bets that are have the lowest house edges as they will get more in the long run. A pass line bet for the crew is usually preferred over hardway bets.
The other player should have waited until you completed a point cycle before buying in and placing all the bets. Then he could have just bet $11 per hardway and handed the crew the winnings from the $1. This way there is no slowing of the game or getting the pit boss involved.
Simple is best.
