Craps

Back To basics

Spread the love

I have posted some of this before but I believe that it bares repeating.

When I was in high school I had the opportunity to be on the basketball team for several years. What I liked best was when we would scrimmage—you have a real game between our teams membets of five on five. We had someone to keep score and the coach was the referee. We all loved it and it was what we wanted to do most.

HOWEVER–isn’s there alwasy a however?

The coach would have us each have a good 30 minute warm up shooting shots for our respective positions followed by offensive drills, defense drills, rebounding drills, weight lifting(we were a skinny bunch and needed muscle), running up the bleachers, you name it we probably did it. And finally the "unwinding drill" where we would run clock wise around the gym until we were exhausted then we had to run counter clock wise until we were–as the coach said–unwound. Then the last thing was free throw shooting to occur when we were tired just like we would be at the end of a game and needed to make these to win. Was it worth it—at the time we were doing it not really, but in the end when we went to the state finals my senior year (we came in second) it was worth every minute of agony.

Now I want to relate this to the GTC way to advantage at craps. I love to play with chips and watch them come into the chip rail. But if I don’t to the warm up drills, throw into a dish, throw to the large mirrow at the end of the table to see my swing, to a lot of practice with my grip while watching TV, use the toothpicks between my fingers (thank you DP), use dice glued together, etc. the results can be a disaster. You get the picture.

It is a chore to do all of this practice, but working on the basics is essential to our success. I have to make myself do this.

When I do try and duplicate casino play, I do exactly what I would do in the casino. The same bets with the same pay offs, place the wins the same way in the chip rail, count my hits so that I know how many pay days I have had using the Big Skinny–thanks Skinny. Every move is practiced and automatic. No decision to be made. The decision is made before I get to the table.

Just a few thoughts that may help some of our friends. We hope to see everyone in the casino soon.

If you are too automatic in the casino I would think that you might miss "opportunity knocking" sometimes. I know that sometimes I get too "zoned" and don’t bet properly to maximize the income.

I know that I am sharpest in the casino when I have taken a few momments to practice at home before I hit the tables. Thanks Doc for reminding us all that good practice habits lead to good results in the casino.
