Simple Question: Why Not Follow GTC Betting?

Spread the love

I realize that this post could upset some members of this board and I do not intend that. I just have a simple question. Why do some GTC trained students not follow the GTC recommendations for proper betting?

Even without passing the Smart Craps tests of axis control we have players who go for the hardways, the other "crazy crapper" bets, even the Fire Bet with its over 20% house edge. Why do this?

Sure if you passed the three Smart Craps tests and follow the information in Frank’s "Cutting Edge Craps" you can maybe (maybe!!!) be able to do the radical betting styles but I just don’t read here reports that those who are making bad bets are truly elite players who have passed the Smart Craps tests.

So why do it? Isn’t that really just gambling?

I know the argument is that I or another dice controller has hit a certain number but GTC stresses you have to ask yourself the question IS THIS SHOOTER ABLE TO OVERCOME THE HOUSE EDGE FROM THIS POINT FORWARD? I think the answer in almost all cases is no.

So why waste your money making these bets? It seems that we practice to get an edge and then give away part or maybe all of that edge because of the bets we make.

Or am I missing something?

You’ve been around long enough to know the answer, it’s no mystery. Some like to gamble rather that play the GTC "Recommended" style. Or another possible answer is the other bets are very compelling when getting those larger pay outs. Or maybe it’s because they have been at this long enough to know what their tendencies are when in possession of the dice and they’re playing into them. Or maybe it’s just fun and they are there to have a little fun and find standing there with money on only the 6/8 is boring.

Really it should be none of my concern how or why you bet as you do as long as I’m comfortable with my betting style and follow it. And for the record I’ve been using the Big Skinny and love it. I don’t believe that method is strictly by the book either.

There is an old saying that all of us have heard many times "you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink." To para phrase " you can teach a gambler the proper way to bet (the GTC way of course) but you can’t make him bet that way." I see it all the time–students and friends–some I have mentored–who right after the class are back to the old ways with hard ways, fire bets, horn bets, you name it they do it. I want to hammer them in the head and say "were you asleep in class where you paid good money to learn?" I’ve even had students pay for the class and leave after lunch the first day and then show up the next morning (late of course) and missing the heart of learning the GTC throw. I’ve had them come in hung over and of course not learning anything. I know that all the instructional staff work hard to make the students the best they can possibly be, and it is frustrating seeing them making these errors as if they did not pay attention.

Are these students part of the 10%? Yes the bottom 10%.

My $.02 worth.

It is not a mystery about some of your students Dr. Crapology. All over America are teachers pulling their hair out because students just don’t seem to want to learn. I think it’s the way of the world.

StephenC is right. So is Dr. Crapology. And these players do what they want to do with their money. They can give it away if they like.

When I took the class in Oct. at lunch break two former students came by. I just listened to what they were telling the instructor. They were saying how much the class helped and that they were winning a lot more. Then they started saying how they bet and to my surprise they seemed like big gamblers to me .They talked about how much they made on hard ways and horn bets.
I just listened and said nothing till they left.
I feel there is no true one way to win. GTC tells or teaches the best bets to make period. Can you make money with these bets ? I tried lots of bets. Itried betting the 8 and only the 8 .i DID WIN THAT BET AFTER 4 ROLLERS AND 40 ROLLS OF THE DICE. So I stopped betting that single bet.
I am now a 3 bet guy with 2 place bets and one come bet when I roll. I then decide to go different ways after seeing how the dice are.
Everybody has a different way of throwing so they bet different as well.
I am trying to relax more and enjoy the game more.Getting to old to worry about some other guys money.
Good Rolling.

Broadway After writing the last post I went on to read the next post. There you will find some answers . In it it said right off the bat some of the horse men bet the 4 which nick at night did not roll. That may have been a great bet just not on this roll.
YOUR DAMMED IF YOU DO AND DAMMED IF YOU DON’T.
Good Rolling. 😀

it is boring,LMAO

Plus winning lots off the hardways and hop bets attracts attention.

Now who doesn’t like attention?
