Craps Etiquette

Spread the love

In the Primer class this month Pit Boss explained the procedure for dealers to pay the bets and how it related to etiquette.
I have been trying to find this information on the web and in this forum.
He explained that if you can make the dealers jobs easier there is less heat.
And at what point in the procedure is it time to make your bets
If anyone can help I would appreciate it

I think it starts like this

1. Come bets Stick to Base
2. Place bets Stick to Base
3. Don’t bets Stick to Base
4.????
5.????
6. etc.

There is a lot in the training of dealers that we do not know of. I think that there is a member on this site that was a dealer at one time that can say more.

One thing that I learned is that while bring the dice back they turn them so the pit can see them and see if the numbers are the same and to see if they have been replaced with other dice. Also just a look for other things too.

They have to pay off the bets in a certain order or things would go crazy when there is a lot of action going on. The prop. bets are last.

I did not follow the come bet stick to base thing.

Even tho I have been rolling dice for a while I did not get this for some reason. I guess that I need to learn the new terms that are used today.
I believe that the stick person tells the dealers on his left first what to pay for the prop. bets then the one on his right but I may be wrong. I also think that he is watching what ever dealer the pit is not to see that pay outs a right. Then when they are finished he tells them the other pay outs.
Good Rolling. 😀

If you are going to press do it when they are paying your bet.

If you have no bet out, and want to place a number waite till the dealer has made the payoffs, and before the stick sends the dice out, pass your bet to the dealer telling him what you ,and how much you want it for.

You may place a come bet after the shooter has thrown the dice , but before the dealer starts to pass them back to him.

Never ever when the shooter has the dice do you make any bets!!!!!!!!!!!!

KyleB,

It was an honor to be your mentor during the class in Vegas. You were indeed a great student. You should do well on your GTC journey—after all you are from the Lone Star State!!

I am no expert on how the order of how bets are paid, but I do remember a few things. I have heard Pit Boss explain this a couple of times and he can, and I hope will, correct anyting that I say this is not correct. Remember all of the procedures are to protect the casino’s money.

1. Losses are collected first—example the shooter 7’s out. The dealer takes the pass line bets with odds. He starts with the player to his immediate side and work his way to the stick. This is to make sure that no one tries to pick up their bets while the dealer is bent over the table and blocking the view of the boxman and or stickaman. Next the dealer pays any bets in the come area. Then they take all the box number come/place bets and locks them up. They then to go the next shooter.

2. When the shooter makes his point the dealer pays the pass line bets to his immediate right/left–depenting on which side he is working–and works his way around to the stick. If it was done the other way around, with the dealer leaning over the table paying the player next to the stick, the dealer would block the box man’s/stickman’s view of the pass line chips at the end of the table and a player could add to his winning bet.

3. If a come bet wins the wins are paid starting from next to the dealer around to the stickman. Remember the bets are in the box number area so the players would find it difficult to post bet a winning roll.

4. Place bets are paid last for the those bets in front of the the dealer.

5. The prop bets in the middle of the table are paid last. Although the dealer pays the player, the stickman tells him how much. One side at a time. I can’t remember which side is first.

Bman is correct. Never make a bet once the dice are in the hands of the shooter. Never buy in while a shooter is on a good roll. Wait until a break in the action–the shooter makes his point or he has a 7 out. If a good roll is going and I know someone at the table I will borrow some chips from him and make my bets. We can settle up later.

If you want to make a new bet, such as buying the 4 ot 10 when the vig is paid only on a win only, wait until all winning bets are paid and then let the dealer know what you want to do. Do not hollar loud several times while he is making payoffs. Give the dealer a beak.

I am sure others can make some additions and/or corrections to my view on etiquette at the craps table.

Thanks for all the help Doc that makes more sense because the dealers always want to protect the money on the table.

Finisher I thought that the bets were paid from the "Stickman" to "Base Dealer" but I was mistaken it is the other way.

ex. if you are in SL1 and the shooter makes the point the "Base Dealer" would pay you last he would start with the person to his right it might be SL4, SL3, SL2, then Sl1 if there were 4 people on that side of the table. I hope that clarifies the stick to base

Also Doc the primer class was awesome thanks for all the great notes that you took during class they will be very helpful.

Come bets and place bets are paid Stickman to Base Dealer (inside out).

Pass Line bets are paid Base Dealer to Stickman (outside in).

Thanks Skinny for more insight

are the come bets paid first then the place bets and then all the center bets

That is correct KyleB.

Try to make bets that are easy for the dealers to pay out. And the guys that are off and on during a roll drive me crazy.
