First, my apologies to Bill Shakespeare…
Here’s a fun little mnemonic to help remember when is it OK to buy-in at the craps table.
All it requires is that you can see the On/Off puck and that you can read backwards.
So, when the puck is “ON,” read it backwards. There is the answer to the question “Should I buy in?”
And when the puck is “OFF” read it backwards, but this time with a little bit of a stutter. There is what you might like to say should someone give you any grief about buying in when the puck is “OFF.”
I will suggest that you only think about saying it, however… 😉

I actually just got back from Vegas and while waiting in one casino to have a new table open up I overheard a beginner’s class on playing Craps—-you know the ones the casinos give to get new people to play Craps.
Unfortunately, I did not hear them say one word about etiquette in Craps play.
I think it would be great if they threw in your little witticism on reading the "On Puck" backwards to know when not to buy in. Not sure they could use your little trick for the "Off Puck"! 😆
I am sure some new players would NOT listen or get it but at least it would let new players know that there actually is etiquette to be followed in Craps play and maybe some would remember.

But what if a known GTC thrower is in the middle of a good roll? Two choices: 1. Wait until a break in the action as stated above, or 2. If and only if there is someone you know at the table have him (her) "lend" you a few chips until there is a break. You can also go to another table or the cahsier cage to buy in and have the stickman save your spot until you return.
I have arrived at the table late (Alligator Rose is already there) and a good roll is in progress and she has automatically given me some chips–she knows me pretty well!!! I then buy in at a break. We can settle up later. I have done like wise for her.
Just a couple of ideas. As always Timmer, thank you for your posts.
