Life on the Home Front

The art of losing and the water gun fight 2012

Spread the love

The Beautirul Alligator Rose and I just spend Memorial Day weekend in West Texas with the grandkids–girl age 10 and boy age 8. What a blast. On Sunday afternoon the small blow up swimming pool was in place as was the slip and slide along with an assorment of water guns and of course the "bazooka" water cannon. The water hose was not far behind. Remember the object of this game was to see just how wet the kids could get the old grand dad, after all that was the object of the great water fight of 2012. They were most successful hosing him down. With the kids in the small pool, old grand pa jumps right in with a big splash. They loved it. Think grandma got a picture.

Then it was many games of Go Fish, Sic Bo, many games in the yard to include Four Horses at basketball. The old grand pa has indeed perfected the art of losing. Grand son is great at telling eveyone how he beat grand pa. Don’t misunderstand me I do make it a point of winning a few games as both kids must learn (and have learned) how to be both a gracious loser and a gracious winner. After each and every game both gkids would reach over the table or come over with a big hand shake and a hearty "GOOD GAME." My daughter and son in law are indeed doing a good job.

Can’t wait for the next visit which will be in August, Oct, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Rose and I are indeed lucky to have these two in our lives. I think I was put on this earth to be a grand father. Remember why grand kids and grand parents get along so well, "They have a common enemy."

Well back to the craps table for practice.

Forgot to add that Alligator Rose had some fun with the granddaughter. Each morning, Rose would sit in a chair while the 10 year old grand daughter would do her hair—Mostly pig tails that were later wrapped around her head. Then Rose would do the grand daughters hair. They also put on make up together. Then later in the day they would each take down the hair do and and make a new ones for each other. Much like a junior high girls slumber party.

Rose really did enjoy doing the girl things and grandson and I did the guy stuff.

Would not take anything for the weekend.
