Life on the Home Front

In review…so far.

Spread the love

Well just when I am really re-defining "crabby", things are not so bad. As those on GT are aware, we adopted Grand daughter. With us more than 2yrs, but legally branded this past Nov. She is absolutely a soul tickler.

It was discovered that some of her school problems were based on her having mild DESLEXIA. The school she is now attending has a great Deslexia training program. Helping with her homework, and watching her struggle with unwinding those words, breaks my heart. Can only study in 5-10 minute blocks. Pressure is not a good thing. I really think my making games with words has helped as much as the structured school work. At least she always laughs when I pull some of my tricks on her. I really believe in the old Readers Digest statement "Laughter is the best medecine".

Her latest STARR test results just came in. She is 10, and in the 4th. grade. Her test, reading math problems, comprehension, showed at grade level 6.3. Her teacher wrote in big red marker across the top. WOW!
Thurs. she placed on the spelling bee team. This she was most proud of…(read: SQUEEL…SQUEEEEEL!) My eyes have tears, my chest is very tight right now…wow.

Going back to my journal, reminds me of where we started. I want her to have so much, and I tend to forget…."you gotta work for it…it ain’t easy."

Just a moment of her strange sense of humor. As a challenge I will occassionally have her try some of my books. She tried some Voltaire. "Daddy this is just silly." She may be 10, but is she wrong.

Feel better after writing this. Softball game today. Here we go.

Thanks to all…DavidM

DavidM—hard to tell who is the lucky one, you and grand mother or the grand daughter. My guess you are both equally fortunate. You are so blessed to have such a special one to take care of. Our hat is off to you.

Hope to see you soon.
