Daytripping with the Denver Duo

Spread the love

Wednesday practice went very well with the exception of Steven C ringing the doorbell and we don’t hear it. HE also called Jim’s cell phone which we don’t answer during practice. Both Jim and I need hearing aids, but are to stubborn to admit it. SORRY Steven.

We decide on Thursday afternoon at CCBH. WIth three dollar tables and 10 times odds my thursday morning warmup includes a virtual session to get familiar with the payouts. My session includes a 48 roll hand before the seven and I know that I have doomed our trip. I tell Jim the bad news and his lovely wife Deb says that Jim is good for a 50.

Casino number 1 and I throw a 14, 16, and a 22. Jim does a 5,6, and a 2. Thanks to the Big Skinny we color up nearly half our buy-in as profit.

Casino number 2 and I start with a 3. Jim starts with the point of 4 and two come bets on the 9 and the 10. Not to worry he says and forty minutes later he ends with a 54 roll hand. No fire bet here but he made 5 different numbers and the 10 three times and the 4 twice. A ploppy at the end of the table had a black chip on all four hardways and was paid 700 dollars 5 times. 54 rolls and Jim threw only 2 sixes. The ploppy had bets on every thing possible, so he was paid on every roll. We colored with a very nice profit and as we left the ploppy was still at the table giving it all back.

Keys to our success: We play on half open tables, no chips in our way. No hands in our way.
We only play at SR-1 and SR-2. One table is similar to my practice table and the other is just like a microfiber insert I built for Jim’s table. We are both very conservative, so our loss’s are minimal. The big Skinny is our preferred MOP. Very good at damage control, yet produces a very nice profit. We both have had all the classes and tune-ups and I have had the video. We play to our advantages, we know each other very well and can adjust each others throw as we go. We use key words at the table to calm each other or adjust as needed.

This is Jim’s second 50 plus hand since February and he has had two others at our practices. He and Deb are off to western Nevada for the weekend. Good Luck.

Goldfinger, great report. Wish Alligator Rose and I could have been there. You had some good rolls where you made good money. The short rolls are simply part of the game. They hardly impact the success of the long rolls.

Hope to see you in the Duke City later next month.

You are two of the nicest guys to be around to.

Yes your throws are a plus!!!!!!

Goldfinger,

I am happy the Big Skinny is working well for you. I think it is a reasonable way to maximize profits while limiting losses. It takes some work at first but once you get the hang of it you should flow pretty much on autopilot.

How is your progression to place bets coming? I remember your saying it was difficult for you to add that to the progression. Have you gotten to that stage yet and have you been able to overcome your original hesitation?

Skinny,
We are coming along slowly with our progressions. JBW is doing better than me. when a come bet comes down without the off and on, he will leave a place bet up, while most often I will make a new come bet. When we add place bets we don’t always put the whole win up as a place bet. Usually about half of the win. We are making nice profits, but realize we could be doing a lot better.

In days gone past we would have placed the 6 and 8 and a pass line bet. But now with come betting we always find the hot numbers, whatever they are. In Jim’s 54 roll hand at one point he threw 4 fives in a row,we were already on the 5 so it was off and on 4 times. We almost never bet the 4 and 10, but now we like the come bets to go there. We both use the hardways set and jim is starting to get lots of hardways, we normally don’t bet them but we need to look into it.

The FIRE BET is coming to Colorado casinos on July 1st. So if you are ever in this area you can stop in.

LOL, Colorado sounds like a great place to be in July. The weather and scenery should be beautiful that time of the year 😀

Remember, one of the things I do with the Big Skinny is when a come bet comes down without the off and on, it is early in the roll and I prefer to go back up with a new come bet rather than placing the number that came down along with a new come bet. That reduces my exposure to one fewer bet if I seven out before the new come bet goes up on a new number. I am still able to get off and on with the come bets that did not come down. But I am doing it with one fewer number at risk. This does cost a little profit if the roll extends but on an extended roll I expect to make enough with the aggressive pattern of the Big Skinny.

The one exception is when a number I have been hitting on this roll comes down. In that case, I may place it because I want to be up on that number anyhow. If the new come bet goes to that number I usually leave the place bet up to give me the opportunity for an early double hit on that number. The money won on the place bet funds the base and odds on the come bet so I now have two bets up on that number for essentially the cost of one bet. That is no worse than if I had done the come bet by itself.

For the most part I make my money on the 10+ to 20+ rolls. If I replace every come bet that comes down with a place bet I may expose myself to too many numbers early costing myself money on the shorter rolls. But if it is working for JBW then that is great.

I don’t see anything wrong with using half of the win when adding place bets. You are putting some money in your rails and keeping your exposure to risk at a lower level. The primary thing is to be comfortable with your level of betting. If this makes you more comfortable that is the best way to go. It is a journey, not a destination. Plus this is a way to "get your feet wet" with a more aggressive method. With more experience and increases to your 401G you can get to the next level when it feels right to you.

Where oh where does one find "The Big Skinny" post. Searched the title in Craps to no avail. And I refuse to wait for next Wed to roll around.

Maybe Skinny can repost the thread, so everyone can get up to speed on this method of play.
It was posted before the switch to the new website.

B-man and Steven, I have found a printed copy of the big skinny, but the site won’t accept my pdf attachment. If you can help me post it I would be thankful.

Barry, maybe you can copy and paste into a new post or onto a reply. Otherwise email it to me and I’ll see what I can come up with.

OK folks. Check out the post "The Big Skinny" I just put up to answer the questions.

I miss living in Aurora. Colorado was a great place to live and I remember being there when limited stakes gambling was finally passed. Learned enough about basic BJ counting that I bought a 27" JVC tv with my winnings one time…those things were big and boxy back then.

Would love to see how the craps play is out there one of these days…

Kind regards,

The journey continues- Part 2

Another Wed. practice and we stink except that Steven C finally arrives and does very well at sl-1.

Thursday JBW and I meet to go to CCBH. The ride up the hill consists of lots of talk about what we need to change in the way we press our bets. We decide to count number of hits plus which numbers were hit. Alot of things to do, but we can handle it, right?
Casino #2, the same table, same crew, same boxman, and the same result. Only this time I have the big hand. First to throw from sr-2 I come out on the 5 and make it twice before any come bet numbers. Then I am on the 10 and off and on the four twice before I make the 10. Then I throw a series of 4 5 and 6’s with more points made. I realize that I have made 12 hits and Jim is pressing but I am not. About roll 30 I check the layout and I have every number except the nine.I usually throw lots of nines but none yet. I drop 4 whites and hop the nine. 5-4 nine twice in a row. I made so many points that it seemed like I was coming out on every third roll. I don’t recall much of the next 20 rolls other than trying to press the right number and take the one I had just pressed. It was mass confusion as Jim would take on his bet and I would press mine, than Jim would also press his. The roll ended at 58 and we were table max bet on the 4 and 6.

Last week after Jim’s 54 hand the boxman had bragged to us about this casino doesn’t sweat the money. The one he worked at before here would always sweat the money. He said come and win all you can. He was again very nice to us and even told me that I held the dice for 35 minutes. It seemed like 2 hours and we still need to work on our pressing of bets.

I really can’t say enough about the video analysis and how it has changed my throw. NFF and those cameras see everthing right or wrong in your throw. It has been a game-changer for me. Does GTC have a class on Betting The Big Hands. If they do, sign me up.

Next week is the Duke City with Doc and Rose.

Thank you GTC for everything you do for all of us.
