I don’t get to play as often as in the past, so when I do…I try and suck all the juice I can from my play time.

I used some down time to research some old crib notes from last year. One consistant item was, staying too long at the table, for whatever reason. Tired, aggravation, just one more shot, trying to fix my shot, and sometimes just because I enjoy being there. Results were not ideal, to say the least.

GT has given me the tools to adjust what I have, to what I need, so I can win. Having to think is a pain, but I can do this. I have a permanent "Game Plan" written down. In pencil I added, WALK .

Wife and 10yr. old Daughter said I was getting to be a real grumpy, grouchy, old man. Go play…please. This was my plan all the time. I am a smart guy. Outta there…zoom!

Mid week is a great time to play. Hot bubble bath with a good book, relax. Then practice in the room with my travel pad. Review my "Game Plan", and turn off my phone. Shoot 3x, walk. Simple. For me, still not easy. I really like being at the table. Only three sessions, then other things to relax. First 3 sessions were very good. Shot 9x. Late evening sessions I walked early all 3x. Once when table became jammed, packed. (this was after my second roll) Twice when my dice were just not right. I just knew I was going to have a monster hand, but I walked. At the room I realized I was more tired than I thought. I know this saved my $$ because of past notes in my book. I CAN NOT FIX IT AT THE TABLE. Written just like that in my notes. Day is done.

Cruising early and got some unusual heat. "Well we have a professional here. Another Dominator here guys!" This was the new stick coming in. Never seen him before. I recognize most of dealers in this area, I think he was new. This was my second time to shoot, and at this time I had dealers on the numbers, piggy on the HW, and with me on the line. (top of my bet) It was come out. I had just set them and had thrown a 3. He started and I said, "I think I will go to breakfast. Take me down please. Pass the dice." The other dealers really gave him grief. No one else had given them a toke all morning. Truth is I was getting a little antsy, and mind was drifting. Great time to WALK. That was really fun.

Best walk of all, for me was departure day. Checked out, car packed. Cashing in some chips before leaving. Standing near the tables, and hearing their siren songs calling. I walked. Wow. A first for me.
It had been an outstanding few days. Playing my game, and making improvements. Those classes that started in 2008 were still paying off. It’s not easy, but that is pretty much what I was told from the beginning.

Two fun things happened on this very good trip. One was "Cold table", and the other was "New dice."

While standing very close and observing a table, a dealer called to me. "Hey David come on in. The table is ice cold, and killing these guys." I had been waiting for dice to get closer to my spot, before coming in.
Stick and dealer got a player to move for me to get to my spot. Players were all making comments of how cold and ugly it had been for a long time, then two players passed dice to me. No pressure at all. A decent 17 with absolutely no junk. As I was organizing my chips, and my mind, the stick said "I think they want you to shoot again." I looked up. Couple of guys had sh– eating grins on their face. Their group had serious $$ in their racks, and really been loud. I nodded OK and here we went. How many times I have had to pull up in my memory, Dom standing in front of class, at Tunica, hitting the palm of his hand and saying, "…you must play your own game, and stay within yourself." Or that’s what I heard. 4pts to the Fire Bet was not a bad second hand. The 5th pt was a blasted 8. I was a little drained, and I walked for coffee and cheese cake.

The "New Dice" thing was just another thing casinos do to break up a roll. Late, late, or was it early, early, anyway I was really in an extremely aware zone, shooting their lights out. Chips had come in, dice had been inspected 3x. Twice by the box. Once by pit. Dice snatched back as I reached, to let a late bet, or late buy-in. Flipped on 7 a few times. Finally just before another come out roll, brought in new dice. The table was not happy. I was so wired I told stick to turn our HW’s on. (dlrs. on all HW piggy) Ba-dump! Hard six. Ba-dump! Hard eight. Oops. Only bad thing neither shot hit the back wall. 3" from wall dead. A little heat but not much. Next shot just tapped back all, with a 4 and the other slowly (with 4 showing) rolled to a 5. It was a very delicious roll.

All of this was exactly what we were taught in class. Practice. Know your edge. Play your game. Realize you are not fighting the Casino, just yourself. The only thing I would add…would be to really know what your dice are doing. Not what you think they are, or you want them to do. Practice like you play. The Casino is a deadly place to learn that they don’t care what your SRR is, or that you parlayed 5 HW at home. Reality is really much easier to deal with. Cheaper anyway.

Shoot with passion…or walk.

Just a great post Dave! What I really loved about it was the point you made about looking at your notes that you have taken over the years.

This is so important!

New dice is a fantastic thing! Nice new sharp edges and boom you are slamming hardways. Great job remaining calm and cool as they apply their stupid stall tactics. It will not work for the students that pay attention and take good notes in class.

Nice post David!

Self discipline is always the hardest part and you just Rocked It!! 🙂 🙂

Nice post, again. Although most students take notes in class, I would bet that the majority don’t look at them after 6 months.
Believe it or not, I still have my notes from 2002 and all the other classes I have taken. Now, the instruction has changed over the years based on more experience and feedback from students. However, if I hear something new from Frank or Dom, I take those notes home with me. When I am with other instructors, and they give me a suggestion specifically for me, I still write that down and take it home.

There is no way over a period of time, that one can remember everything they were told. Reading the books is one thing, but having the instructors tell you their observations and suggestions unique to you can not be replaced.

Good job, DavidM.

Just to keep everything clear. All of my hands were not good, and I walked even more than I wrote about. What I really had to fight was…me. I wanted to play up and down. (open to close) Many years ago, that was how I liked to play BJ. Things change. My loses were minimal, wins were better managed than in the past. I was satisfied, for this trip. My wife has a surprise set up for my birthday, and I will have a different goal.

Thanks for the responses…nice to know family is still out there.

Forgot to ask. What is that little red star to the left of the topic heading? Did I not spell something right?

Also in that same little circle, sometimes it is schrolling like some one is reading the post. OR am I drifting again?

Help me…

The little red star means you have either written that post or added a post to the thread.

I don’t know what the scrolling in the circle represents.

The little red star means you have either written that post or added a post to the thread.

I don’t know what the scrolling in the circle represents.

The scrolling means it is a very popular thread. The threshold is set by the admin and I believe PHP defaults to 20 or 25 posts. Any thread with more than that threshold will have a scrolling icon.

DavidM—I sorry that you can’t join us in early March at our favorite place—you know where I mean. But we will get together soon.

Dod and Alligator Rose.

Wish I could make it. Karen’s (wife) surprise for me is the next week. Birthday

Part of my walk away post was a memory of you doing just that. Stick was leaning in and just being rude. You pulled and passed dice. Rose cashed in. I cashed in. It was a good memory. (same place)

Always a pleasure…

Hi DavidM!

Great post, thanks.
I certainly can identify with the walk away. Had to do it a couple of times in Biloxi the past few days. It takes discipline, but it’s very rewarding.
