I have to admit i am not pleased with the attempt to nominate a replacement for Lord Obama as
i hoped i would be.
I am not sure what i was expecting, this was not it. I fear we have had way to many debates
which serve only to confuse voters and give candidates more opportunities to look foolish.
My opinion on Newt and Romney have changed some. I have felt that Romney never scared me, but
neither did he inspire me. Newt inspires me from time to time, but he also scares the hell out of me.
Romney seems to be tougher than i thought and it actually appears to me he wants it this time.
Newt has become another story altogether, he is a historian, he understands the historical impications of this election. He understands if Obama wins it will be the end of America as we know it, and in that regard he
seems to place himself in a position much like the founding fathers faught for the establishment of the country, he thinks he is fights for its life. And who knows, he may well be. However seeing ones self as
some grand historical figure is not the same as being that, and miles away from convincing others that you
are that.
Newt pictures himself as president and cant understand why others dont see it, and he has i think an anger growing inside at those that dont see it. At times it makes for a rather ugly candidate.
Obama sees himself in that same light…. i am right, and i am here to make the country and the world the way i want it to be.
I guess i sadly am coming to the conclusion that perhaps were are better off without Obama or Newt.

I do not have the same level of confidence in Mitt. When I read his proposals and listen to him speak, there are far too many generalities for me to have the confidence that he has the where with all to get the country back on the right track.
I think some of your objections to Newt will be assets as President. It is not going to be easy to get Congress to go along with what needs to be done to put this country back on the path of fiscal responsibility. The damage done by Obama and to a lesser extent by Bush is enormous. It is going to take a strong individual to get the cooperation of Congress and the populous to make the changes need to actually happen.
But more importantly you need someone with a proper vision who can think on his feet, be strong when needed, cooperative when necessary, has the courage of his convictions and the intelligence to know what has to be done to get to the objective. Newt is far superior to Mitt in all these areas in my mind.
I, like the both of you, have my objections with how both of them have handled themselves through this process over time. Newt tried to run a clean campaign and Mitt sabotaged him with negative adds and was successful with it. Mitt has far more money than Newt and is using it to undermine Newt with misleading and in some cases blatantly false statements. I think a lot of what the public has against Newt has come from the media and his detractors who are not telling the full truth. I am not going to refute those claims here and Newt was not able to get his message out completely because he did not have the money to do so. I am amazed he has been able to keep his composure as well as he has given the way many and Mitt specifically have unfairly characterized his past.
It seems to me that he has matured greatly from the young ambitious Newt that he was 20 years ago. That Newt was more impatient and impetuous. I have listened to him carefully and read much of what he has written and am extremely impressed. Obama has charisma and the media behind him. Make no mistake about it, if Mitt is the candidate the media will attack him just as viciously as they would any other Republican opponent. I think the difference is Newt can fight back and win, the best Mitt can do is tread water and look hurt. There is no doubt in my mind that he can make Obama look foolish in any debate and that is no easy task. The rubber will meet the road with the swing voters who are going to determine this election by how well the Republican candidate handles himself one on one against Obama. Newt will fare much better than Romney in that regard. He can think just as fast if not faster than Obama and he can tear Obama apart one on one. Mitt will be the underdog in that match and I fear he will not be able to rise to the challenge.
Bottom line, I think Newt can beat Obama but I am not sure about Mitt. But when it comes to sitting in the Oval office, Newt is better equipped than Mitt to get the job done at this point in time. I truly believe as gman said our future is at stake. But I don’t think it ends with the election. You need someone in the office who can get done what needs to be done. I have serious reservations about Mitt, although I would support anyone against Obama. But I am looking at the election and beyond. I think Newt is the one we desperately need right now.

I agree with what your feeling, i have felt that about Newt for years and gave him quite alot of money over time.
However my gut tells me something has changed. I dont give a crap about who says what about some one else, whether it is Romney about Newt of Newt about Romney, both have baggage, and both will be attacked
by Obama far worse than they have seen until now.
I also dont put much stock in the debating issue. I understand that is what Newt likes. He indicated he would
follow Obama around until he debates him in a Lincoln -Douglas style debate. I like that and can dream about that, however it is not going to happen. Obama may not have been born in the US, but he and his team are the smartest political force we have ever seen, making the Clinton team look like children.
In the coming election the Obama team will have the media wrapped around their fingers, every mistake made by Newt or Romney will be pointed out to the media by the Obama team. This will be something none of us have ever seen, and if your uneasy now….. wait till September.
Obama will never agree to more than 1-2 debates and none of those will be in front of any one that is not
on the Obama side. Questions will be favorable to Obama……..
Look i understand fully what this election means, i live it day after day as i inspect forclosed homes , see kids toys and books scattered all around in abandoned homes. I have visited scores of small business units closed in
Wisconsin. i fought for years to get the government units like FHA to quit using phoney numbers to finance homes that could never be paid for. Now speaking with bankers that are scared to death to loan anyone anything, given the new banking rules. Over-riding all that i have seen there is one truth that bothers me at night…. that is no matter what we do , we cant change reality, and for many people that have lost everything and are over 50, or 55 or 60…. well their future will be tough.
Which ever candidate wins the nomination will go through hell and back in this fight with the Obama organization, and I am not sure Newt has the mental toughness to do it. My gut tells me no, but if Newt can do it I would be happy, If Romney beat Obama i would be happy, i am just pretty sure that if anyone can beat Obama it is going to be truly hard and they will have to have a mental toughness far beyond what has been required in past presidents.
You know Skinny we all want to look at the best sides of everything, me to, but i have to admit in my job i have to look equally at what is good and bad, what it the best that can happen and what is the worst that can happen. I have found that after 35 years of this stuff i do that with most things i look at. It is not always fun to look at both sides.
I do that at home also, last night i was cooking a new meal for my wife. It was something i just made up and i kicked her out of "my kitchen" so she could not see what i was doing, just in case she did not like it. It turned out
great, i browned some mushrooms and fried schrimp in a coating of flour and italian seasoned crumbs, made a crab cake and browned that, then divided the crabcake into smaller pieces and placed the mushrooms, schrimp and crab cake in a pan and covered that with a butter cream sauce thickened with a rue of the coating. We had that over rice…. she loved it so i did not have to explain what i did.

Why not just come north to Canada? We have all the oil in the tar sands that will keep you warm all winter and cool in the summer.
Oboma doesn’t want the Keystone Pipeline ( To get the enviro votes) but I understand the you guys could use a few jobs to build it and then maintain it.
Oh well I guess our Prime Minister, Mr Harper, will just have to strike a deal on his trip this week to China , to sell our oil to them.
Most of my fellow Canadians do not understand why you, (USA) does not want to buy your oil from a fiendly country, but would rather buy from the Middle Eastern countries.
We just hope you can stop all the bickering an elect a proper president this November.

He has this idea we can all drive an electric car to work 30 miles away in the dead of winter on icy roads through
a foot of snow. NOw mind you, when all of us can no longer get to work, pull the boat we paid for or the camper we paid, or take a fishing trip to Canada, Obama will still be playing golf 80 times a year and basketball and his wife will be taking trips to Italy and Hawaii, but we wont.
What baffles the snarf out of me is that there are many people in the world and in Canada that think conservative americans are the problem, and what we really need is a good Marxist in the white house like we have to show
us the proper road.
