Anonymity

I cannot count the times I have seen posts in which the writer speaks of wanting to step up to the table with Dom, Frank, the Horsemen etc. Whenever I see those posts, I think that I am very happy that I am not in their position. The pressure of having an audience risking their money, while expecting sometimes unrealistic results would ruin the game for me. Add to that casino dealers, and suits that recognize them and you have a recipe for a miserable experience.

In my opinion Anonymity is priceless. I can be standing at the table next to you having a bad day and to you I would just another player. I have none of the pressure of the KNOWN shooters.

Anonymity is like virginity, it is a one shot deal. Once you lose it you can not get it back.

What do you think? Would you want to be a known shooter?

I must agree. I do however, like to roll with friends (like the 5 horse men) from GTC as they know dice control is not a 100% thing. We simply have the ability to win more than we will lose in the long run. They know any of us can have a bad roll, bad session, bad day or bad trip. It happens. Heck, the casinos do not win 100% of the time from 100% of the players. The casinos just win more than the players win—this difference is their profit.

Would I like to be at the table with the five horse men? Of course, but not so much because I might catch a good roll (that would be fantastic as it would be with any GTC roller) but they are friends of Alligator Rose and I. AND that my friends is very important as well.

I have an old sand box buddy from my childhood (just ran across him recently) who has some crazy ideas (I mean really stupid) that his dreams will tell him how to win. He wants to see me roll as he has never seen (in his words) "a so called dice controlled do any good." I am trying like crazy to avoid him. I even have a trip planned this weekend but I am not telling him.

My $.02 worth.

My point is people expeect too much if they know you train to shoot the dice. Their expectations are unreasonable.

Well i can understand the pressure Dom or Frank and others may feel to play in front of other members, some just want to make money others want to share the game with them just because of their passion for the game and history with it.

Most of us dont seek that out because we respect the time they want to spend with their friends just as we do.

BUt i have found one thing, that is if you have played craps for a long time with some friends, once you take up the GTC way it changes everything. You know longer play like they do, bet like they do, play as long as they want to. You become an outsider, and play less and less with them. this is some good and some not so good.. BUt unless you have a gtc group you find yourself playing more and more alone.

Once you have given a couple of years to your throw, spent multi thousands of practice throws, you are never again free of your friends expectations or your own, there is no longer any such thing as anonymous, from them or yourself.

Becoming good or better at something raises expectations, and it should, you can’t get better at any thing if you dont strive to get better, and maybe it is just that expectation of ourselves and others that drives us to improve.

I have been on both sides. I have had great rolls with people watching me who know me, read my books, took the class and I have fallen flat on my face in front of such people as well. I am embarrassed when I fall flat on my face even though every controlled shooter falls flat on his or her face too. It is possible that I might try harder (not a good thing) to have stellar rolls when I am aware I am known.

My real technique is to use the 3-V and hit sixes and eights, even if the total rolls are low. I want to make money. But banging out a few sixes and eights and then sevening out does not make me look like a great shooter. Oh, well, what can I do?

I will sometimes get comments made, both good and bad, by dealers, boxmen and floorpeople. They actually have no effect on me one way or the other.

But I am aware of those who are aware of me.

I will say this. Some characters have claimed to have played with me and I know they never played at the same table with me based on how they said I bet. I got an email from a person who said on some web site some ploppy claimed to have had dinner with me at which I bragged I was scamming people out of their money and I was proud to be a crook. Obviously, all baloney but the Internet is open to such baloney.

Where we play regularly, almost all the dealers know who we are, how we play, and love us because we tip and almost no one else does. They even feel bad for us when we are "off" our game. Then they will tell us to take a break and go play Pai Gow. When I am "on," the box or pit boss has often said, "She is in her zone," and applaud after a long roll. I have also introduced many new players to the crews, and made sure they were tipping, so that is also appreciated. In a previous post, I mentioned that so many dealers and pit bosses gave Sandtrap a hug and said they were praying for him after he started his chemo. We haven’t been back since the first week in December, and missed my birthday trip. Skinny told me that everyone was asking for us and how Sandtrap was doing. So I guess we don’t have any anonymity at our casino, and we love it because we feel it is our "home."

We also have regular players (non GTC) who like to play with us. They know what we are doing, and even keep the landing lane open for us. Some will even move over for us if they are in our spots. There are also a couple of "don’t" players who will sit out or go to another table when we are shooting. I assume they don’t want to risk losing money on us, and don’t want to change their way of betting.

There was one time when a GTC player showed up, and said he specifically wanted to make money on one of my long rolls. As has often been posted, we play for ourselves, not for anyone else, and I don’t shoot well when that happens. Since that time, I have stopped posting when we will be playing. We know we will have good days and bad days, as will everyone. Within our little group, we don’t feel pressure to perform, and we still have a lot of fun even when things are not going as we would like.

In each class, people have made friends, and formed their own playing groups, or meet up to play. And that’s the way it should be. Get together because you like each other, enjoy playing together, and for the camaraderie.
