I rarely disagree with you Scan but I loved the movie.

There used to be a chimp named Nim who was experimented on in the 1970s. The story of Nim is exactly like this movie, minus the highest level of intelligence and the rebellion. Nim lived in a household and then as a teenager he was moved to a monket farm where he literally had a nervous breakdown.

There was a documentary entitled Project Nim that was released in the summer of last year, 2011. It had a lot of actual footage that was shot during the 1970’s that was used to weave a tale documenting that ridiculous experiment. It was clear that this project, undertaken by a bunch of rich hippies, under the guidance of Professor Herbert Terrace whose project it was would never be successful. Not a great movie but certainly a tragic story.

As for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I thought it was a reasonable movie. You are correct that they stole the story line somewhat from the actual Project Nim, to a degree. But I thought it had some redeeming qualities. I found it interesting to see how they managed to mold this movie into being a prequel to the original Planet of the Apes series of movies from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

The actor was Andy Serkis and he was nominated for Critics Choice Award, San Diego Film Critics Society Award, Satellite Award and Washington DC Area Film Critics Association Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role as Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Unfortunately he did not win any of the awards but at least he was nominated.

I liked it and as a kid I despised the original series. It seemed like it was always on.
