LAS VEGAS REPORT – OCT. 2011

Spread the love

We arrived in Las Vegas Thursday afternoon, just in time for the set-up. All the instructors and mentors knew that Sandtrap had recently started chemo , and everyone greeted him with a hug, and asked how he was doing. GTC is our family, and we really felt the warmth and caring that emanated. Sandtrap stayed in our room since he didn’t feel well after the flight, and I went to dinner with Frank, Stickman, and Skinny, and caught up with what we had been doing since last together.

Friday I hung out with Lee and Rafter while Sandtrap rested. We wound up on a crapless table, the only one available, which none of us had played on before. We were surprised when a come bet went to the "11" and we didn’t collect. It was interesting, and a lot of fun. I don’t think the dealers or pit boss had ever seen tipping before. They were so friendly, sorry when we had to leave, and asked us to please return soon. We had to rush back to the Meet and Greet, where we met our students, and learned a bit more about them.

Saturday and Sunday the teaching sessions went smoothly. Everyone had done their homework, and there was amazing progress between the two days. It is always gratifying when we see how much the students have taken in and applied. During the "box number contest," everyone’s shot looked really good, and we know that many students in this class will be advantage players.

Monday morning we couldn’t get on a table until 1pm, so I went to Pai Gow, and Sandtrap rested. Jack joined us when the table opened, and we each took the dice three times. Sandtrap had the best roll of 14, and my best was an 11 roll. Jack’s best was a roll of 10, but it included four 9’s. Since we were all repeating numbers, we still made money on the short rolls. We also had a cf’er with a 32 roll. He made 8 passes, and threw seven 6’s, four of which were hardways. Another cf’er kept playing the field for $300. When he finally decided to try throwing the dice, he didn’t understand why he lost his PL bet when he threw a three. Prior to leaving for their flights, Rafter, Lee, Daryl, and Billy showed up. They had already played elsewhere with good results, and were probably tired. The table filled up, so there were only two throws each, and both Rafter and Daryl had a 13 toss. Jack had an amazing 40 roll.

Tuesday morning Sandtrap and I woke up very early, and were at the table at 6:30am. We were probably tired and didn’t know it, because we didn’t do diddly squat, and went to breakfast. We then met up with Butcher, who tossed a 6, 4, and one gorgeous 40 roll, with seven 6’s and all inside numbers, followed by an 11. Sandtrap threw a 6, 5, and then a 14 with all 6’s and 8’s, followed by a 12 toss. I was too tired, and didn’t do anything. We did catch a cf’er who had rolls of 20, 20, and another one who had a beautiful 37 roll.

In the afternoon, I managed a 16 and a 21 roll. Dom had a nice 22 roll. Sandtrap struggled, but when I reminded him about "straight back and follow through," he tossed a wonderful 37 roll. However, the player of the afternoon was Jack. He started off with a 6 and a 4, but then had rolls of 25, 23, 4, and ended with a 30!

It was decided at dinner that, unlike Monday’s dinner, there would be none or one drink so we could play afterwards. It was late when we arrived at the table, so there were only two rolls each before it was bed time. The best rolls were Jack’s 22 and Dom’s beautiful 31. After goodbyes and hugs, Sandtrap had a very nice 23 roll, and with that, we went off to bed.

Our dinners were filled with interesting discussions and some new jokes from Patti. Sandtrap was his usual self, ready with the repartee, so I knew he was feeling better after a rough beginning of the week. 😀 As usual, after classes we are all tired, and Sandtrap was tired from chemo and traveling. But we did go home with very nice profits, and for us it was a nice diversion. We now can’t wait to see everyone in March.

Goddess 🙂
