I am playing in my first ever craps tournament next weekend at Mohegan Sun. Is there a strategic method to tournament craps? I play in blackjack tournaments often, and I like the stratagy i play by and usually do well, but I am clueless when it comes to craps. And since there is a very small chance of actually throwing the dice myself from position, i doubt I will have any edge with the GTC play. Limited time will prevent me from using the 5 count. And advise will be greatly appreciated.

A craps tournament sounds like a lot of fun, albeit a more random event. It’s not how much money you win, you only have to have one more chip than the other players. This cries out to bet smart, and depend on strategies discussed on this forum. "Newbie" poker players almost always play too many hands, and go out early. Don’t go crazy when other players go crazy. Be opportunistic when the time comes, you may have only one chance in a tournament. Let’r rip!

I got the following advice from Mad Professor. Put 1/3 of your chips on the No 4, 1/3 on the No 10 and split the other 1/3 on the place numbers. Work every roll inclucing the come out. I got to the finals and then didn;t pay attention to how wvery one else was betting and came down. I finished in the money but I could have won had I not pulled everything down. Good Luck !!!!!

Is the tournament open to anyone?

No! It’s by invitation only! I believe! But it can’t hurt to call MS and ask. Let me know if you will be there! Thanks for the advise everyone!

From what I understand you go all in right away and try to put big distance between you and the other guys. You either do or you bust out. I think that is the way to go.

Actually Franken isn’t too far off the wall on this. You play a craps tournament based on "chips," not so much on pre-planned betting. You have to keep yourself in the contest because individuals will make really poor bets, win them, and put you in the hole. So aggression is one way to stay on top of the game.
The second way is exactly the opposite. Stay in the woods and then come on strong in the end with your own aggressive bets.
Your choice. 😀

Tournaments seem to be more like chip counting. You have to make decisions based on chips and not the standard decisions you would make in normal play.

I talked to a group of guys that did it this way. They played two on a table one betting the pass the other dp. Out of the 4 2 went to final table did the same with the idea that they would split the pot. One did make money . They were all happy. They came in 3rd. The pay outs were to 6th.
Don’t remember the pay outs as far as money.
Good Rolling. 😀
