Does table bounciness change with usage?

Spread the love

Recently, I have visited casinos that I have found to have a table or tables to my liking with respect to bounciness. One of those tables was recovered since my previous visit with a bouncy microfiber compared to the previous covering. I revisited that same casino about a month later and avoided that table since I remembered how bouncy it was on my earlier visit after it was recovered. Later during that visit, I observed that the previously bouncy table looked very playable with respect to bounce. Therefore, I did play on it and it seemed very traditional on bounce.
So, here’s my question: Does table bounciness, particularly with microfiber, change with time and usage – even in as little as 1 month? Or is this my imagination?
Maybe I’m putting too much emphasis on table bounciness, but it does seem to affect my results significantly.

I am no expert on this . I have seen a bouncy table and even after several months it was the same they do change them some times just because they take up to much time getting the dice back and slowing the game DOWN .If the bean counters notice that then it will be gone other then that our complaints go on death ears .Now you may have gotten better with your throw . 🙂

The bounciest tables, the ones like trampolines, have a 1/8” layer of Volara (cell filled foam, as is used under wood and tile flooring). At those tables, it is not an exaggeration to say the box man spends a third of the time chasing the dice across the casino floor. No amount of use or time will result in those tables being less bouncy.

Tables that are somewhat bouncy are most often due to a thin water proof vinyl layer (usually white) under the microfiber layout. Sometimes the microfiber layout comes with a waterproof backing. The bounciness of these tables will also be affected by how tightly the vinyl layer is applied. But, I have found little consistency from one casino to another.

In your case, I suspect something was spilled or excreted (chewing tobacco?) onto the table to which you refer. Then, in replacing the layout, it and the vinyl layer were not so tightly installed.

Hi Bminus1,

Firstly, great observation and post. In the Advance Class you are taught about the details of how this phenomenon happens. NFF correct me if I am wrong but I believe Every time that stick slides across the felt it wears it down. From my personal experience both the underlying padding gets compress down and the microfiber starts to flatten. There are more indicators about wear but I will reserve that for NFF and BTK to explain. But I recommend when you find this case take advantage of it because most likely the table will be re-felted.

Just to add some insight I try not to use the word "bounce" to describe the action that the dice have with the table and back wall. I simply try to observe the "reaction" between the dice and the table and back wall. There are many things that may make me decide that a table may be playable or not and there are lots of things that the player can do to affect that reaction.
After some observation I may decide to play or not play depending on what I observe and also whether to play one table over another. I try to observe both known and unknown tables before I play because as described above the "reactions" change not only over the long term but also somewhat short term also. These changes can be both positive and negative.
I suggest that every time you play you need to do what your parents taught you to do when you first learned about crossing streets. Stop, Look and Listen. Making good choices is paramount in the quest for bankroll growth. Find and play in the best possible conditions only. Don’t gamble.
