I had a minor encounter in an east coast casino that is well known as a Craps 5X odds venue. In an attempt to push the odds, I have started playing $11 PL in order to lower that house edge even more.
I played last week, and a dealer made a fuss that I could not place more than $60 on a 6/8, when, in reality, the house let’s you go to $75. When he spoke up, i just simply and politely replied, "I can only go to $60?’. He had attempted to check with the table boss, but the TB was busy dealing with another issue and never answered, so, the dealer looks back to me and says, "it’s $60".
Not to push the issue or make a stink, I played at $60. That dealer headed to break, so, I asked his replacement dealer when it came up again. She said I could go to $75 and she double checked with the table boss who confirmed $75 on $11 6/8 Come bet max odds. When the first dealer came back to cover the line wagers, I waited for an opportunity to politely let him know that i had double-checked with the Table Boss and could go to $75. This time, the female dealer was the Stick (and knew I had given a decent amount of tips) and she was quick to jump in and confirm that I was correct.
Fast forward to this morning, different time of day, different shift of dealers/bosses. I throw a 6, and placed $75 behind the line. The Table Boss says, "Sir, you have too much behind the line". Before I even had a chance to say anything, two dealers interject that I could go to $75, but the TB is not convinced. After a couple of seconds, I politely ask, "Are you sure?". He says no,$60 is max odds, to which I say, "would you please check that? I was told just last week by a different Table Boss that I could go to 75". He checked his computer and was able to confirm that i was correct.
I wasn’t trying make a scene. I kept calm and polite, while picking my spots. I prefer keeping low-key and avoid the fray, but this was unavoidable if I want to get a proper payout for certain box numbers. I was surprised that two different table crews from the same house were playing under two separate interpretations of the same situation.
It"s one thing for the players not to know about pushing the house. It surprised me that a table boss would not know.
