Last weekend, an instructor suggested visualizing the point number that you are trying to make. I do visualize shooting sessions in my head which helps muscle memory. Recently, I had a brain MRI, which thankfully showed nothing. That line was for you Billy. During the very noisy MRI, I visualized shooting sessions which helped get me through it. But, visualizing a point number and then making it is one step too far for me. How can you scientifically validate that it works. Sometimes you make the point and sometimes you don’t. Is it working? I just don’t see it.

Sometimes, visualization is more for the focus, although I do hit the number I’m visualizing sometimes, for me it’s more for getting all of the other garbage going on around me out of my mind. That focus let’s the fingers grip correctly and my whole routine work smoother and more consistently.

I think this is a great subject. It has to do with positive thinking. It affects your overall skill at the table. Even tipping the dealer helps, they are thinking positive as well. The more positive people you have at your table the better. I do poorly at tables with lots of don’t players and when there are too many negative players around me. I do much better when I have DCs at my table. It is hard to explain with words, in Star Wars its called the force, but the impact is noticeable when it comes to adding value to one’s skill and overall health.
I am assuming at a certain point in our DC career, that our practice game will be on point but we will have to overcome the mental game in live play. "The force" must be developed where you can block out all the negative energy during your session and absorb the positive energy. You know when you are in this mode when you go into a sort of a fog and all voices around you sound at a distance and you are just hitting box number after box number.
Ultimately, you want develop your "force" to the point where you can play anywhere anytime, under any situation becoming a true Jedi Dice Master.
Glad to hear all is well with your MRI and hope your rack is always filled with chips.

Does it work because sometime I can call out the way the dice will land exactly and other times I can’t. For those that aren’t religious excuse this analogy – Does prayer work? IMHO, prayer or meditating is good for everyone, for others it is BS. So does visualization work – for some it keeps you focused and I believe it does.

In golf, I focus on the shot I want to make, how I expect the ball to fly, where to land, and how it will roll or stop upon landing. That gets my mind off of mechanics (training will take over) and more on my target.
