So I am going to rebuild my practice rig. Why not buy a setup from GTC, well I haven’t made enough money yet. My father does a lot of wood working so he is willing to help me rebuild my rig, which it really needs to be rebuilt. Got a couple questions that I’m hoping you all don’t mind me asking.
Receiving Station: Right now made of 1" birch plywood, then one layer of flannel, then my casino table felt. The back wall is an old shelf with the alligator rubber. Side walls also old shelves. I find that the dice are still pretty bouncy or that I’m throwing wrong!!!
I currently do not have a throwing station. I use a kitchen table chair that I turn backwards and use the back of the chair as the rail.
New Setup:
Receiving Station: Making it with 1.5" MDF (2 pieces of 3/4" screwed together), then one layer of flannel, then casino table felt. Side walls I am thinking MDF or plywood.
Throwing Station: Going to make my old Receiving station my new throwing station by just adding a rail.
So my question is I want to get this close to what I face in my area. I like the hard tables and have found casinos that use these tables versus the bouncier tables. So should I use the flannel underlay or should I use something else? Should I not even use the underlay? I have read people using flannel and some using newspaper. Just want to get opinions on how to do my rebuild and get something that will help me become an advantage player.

Receiving station – 2 3/4 inch MDF is going to be heavy. If you don’t mind the weight, go ahead. But what you could do to reduce the weight is to go with the birch 3/4 and then take another piece of birch and from the back wall to about half way pput another 3/4 birch, (or MDF) —– what you want is for the landing area of the dice to be 1.5 inches. That is the way we build them. As far as the sides you could use birch as well and even go to a 1/2 inch or even pre made shelves from a place like Home depot. Again, this is because of weight. The height should be 28" from the floor to the table top
For the covering you don’t need felt underneath – what you should buy is a piece of felt from a billiards store – high quality and backed – again that is what we use and it works great.
Throwing station – should be the same height – 28: from the top to the floor and then the rail should be 11" from top to the top of the rail

I did get some help and encouragement from some on this site .Which helped since it did take some time to build . I did make several trips to Vegas for supplies do to limited funds . It would have been done a lot faster do to that fact . Some of the things I had like the top rails were from some shelves that I had in garage just setting around .I went with 3 oak plywood boards .Also used another one for side rails . Which was a mistake after fact . Binder board would have been better .
I did post the Pics on this site . Also got on line 1,000 chips for 79.00 back then .
You could just order a craps felt they sell on line for small table and flip it over . I don’t know how much you want to put into this thing . That is why I went with a full table . ( 12 foot ) I made sure that when I glued the plywood together that the half sheet was on the full sheet . The plywood and felt was the big cost
I hope that you enjoy this journey that you are on . You can get it done and will enjoy many years of fun along with others .
This project has led me to two black jack tables and one porker table . Not made by me but found at yard sales .
So who knows were this will lead you to . 😀
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂

Definitely agree with the high quality billiard cloth for your top layer. I am using this on my receiving station and I think it works great. You might want to buy a bit more than you need even though it is expensive as you will probably have to recover in a couple of years if you practice alot.
Just a suggestion here.If you are unsure of what underlay material you might want to use then you could always make a small test board like a plywood scrap maybe a foot square. You could try different underlay materials until you find one that resembles the bounce you want. You could try various things such as newspaper, flannel, felt (we just use 2 layers of felt on our station but the underneath layer is a very inexpensive type from a local fabric store).
You could just make the small board with the materials you want and then staple a small piece of billiard cloth around it. Lay it on top of your receiving station and Toss the dice a few times and take notes. Then unstaple and try the next test material. It probably won’t be exact but should give you an idea of various bounce characteristics with each underlay. Once you make a final decision then you can graduate to covering the whole receiving station with whatever you decide on.
If you are trying to match a casino that you play at often this might be the way to go. Good luck and have fun with it!

Build the receiving station 10 in by 10 in why?
It will teach you to hit the same spot every time, plus if you can learn to hit it every time and make the dice stay in it, yes that is right the dice are not come out of the receiving station, you will know you have achieved control.

Finisher: The hope is to one day have a full size table, but for now can’t fit it in my apartment. LOL Once I buy a house that will definitely be on the list of item to add to home!! I have also turned my kitchen table into a BJ table. My kids love to play which helps me when I am practicing.
Brothelman: thank you for that suggestion. I was thinking of making a small recieving type bowl to toss the dice into to help me to hit the same spot over and over. But I do like the idea you have presented.
Again thanks to everyone for the input!!!

You are so right so. There is indeed a wealth of information on the message board that will be of value to all. I know that we do some research from time to time.
We know that the tooth picks you mentioned (or even a small piece of paper will do) will help you keep your fingers straight across forming a fulcrum for the dice to roll off of. For those who are not familiar with this technique, simply place a small piece of paper between the knuckles of 1. the first finger and the middle finger and 2. the middle finger and the ring finger. Hold in place throughout the entire throw to get the feel of keeping your fingers together. This will certainly help the dice roll off your fingers. After a couple of throws take the pieces of paper out and continue to practice. You will see improvement.
And remember to make sure your thumb is centered so the dice won’t wobble as they are released and fly through the air.
As Mr Finesse used to say–every thing starts with a proper grip and perfect practice makes perfect.
Hope this will help others.

Would you post a progressive chart comparing up a unit to pull and press? I believe Stretch posted the chart. Get a Grip and I have been trying to locate it.
Thank you,
Catch you later!

You should make copies of what interests you. I found these on an old website. I am not sure how long it will be around.
