Hi all
I received an email from a long time and great student today. I am not going to post his question verbatim because there is some personal information in it but here is the basic question:
he is using 2 comebets and a passline bet with full odds initially. If one of the comebets don’t go to wither the 6/8 he places them. If one of the comebets goes to the 4 or 10 he buys the other number. He is playing in Vegas. He is making money doing this and his 401G is growing. he wants to know what I think about this. Here is my response and I thought it would be good for everyone – comments welcome

HI
You can email me at any of my addresses – we are friends and one day soon I hope an instructor for me!
First before I tell you what I think about your betting, I want to tell you what I feel about ‘risk of ruin". IMHO risk of ruin really depends on the person – their feelings about how much money they have on the table and also their ability to re-stock their 401G if needed. 1 – 2 percent is a good number for most people. Also this risk of ruin would depend on your edge which you have when you are throwing, and if 2% or more on the table scares you.
So lets start – I don’t REALLY have a problem with what you are doing as long as the $226 doesn’t bother you when you are throwing. Buying the 4/10 in Vegas is actually a better bet than pacing the 6/8 as far as edge is concerned because in Vegas they take the vig after it hits. As you know though I am all about casino edge against my edge. It is great that right now you have a lot of confidence because you are making money. You should because with your SRR you have an edge. I don’t really want to discourage what you are doing because it is giving you confidence and confidence is important when you are throwing.
So instead I am going to tell you what I would do and which I do when I want to get more money on the table initially. I would go out with more come bets and I would do this because of the lower edge than placing the 6/8. Maybe I would go out with another come bet if none on my bets go to 6/8 and not take $50 in odds – maybe only $25 in odds on those bets.
The question is why do you think you need a 6/8 on every roll of the dice? Why do you think that you are going to throw one or the other on any turn with the dice. Example – Daryl in AC last week had a 42 hand roll and only threw 3 6/8 all the hits were on different numbers. Remember on any given roll of the dice you will get a signature number – but that doesn’t mean that you will always have that particular signature number on all your rolls. I believe in letting the dice talk and I believe and preach that edge is what should always be the concern.
One thing – I hope you are using the 5-count on your friends! :)))
So that’s it. Again what you are doing is working and the bets you are placing carry the lowest house edge as far as place bets are concerned. At least you are not placing the 5/9 :)))
Good luck on this trip and keep me posted
Dom
