This is from another post on this list but I thought it might be useful to some.
Read the bottom of Mr. Finesse’s posts: Remember: Practice makes it happen!!!!! HOWEVER, it needs to be GUIDED practice with good habits not just throwing the dice and hoping for the best.
If you played the GTC way this year and cannot say what I am informing you of below, get to AC or wherever and get a Friday private tune up and whatever else is suggested by Dom or Finesse or the crew —
For those who do not know, I complained about being bored in Connecticut in the winter with nothing to do but go to the casino because I was tired of driving 3+ hours to ski and could not play golf with the snow. So, my wife took the winnings over the past year and bought a nice 3.5 acre property with a 2k sq ft house and large barn etc. outside of Charlotte with it. It was cash with only a $75k balance.
The good news, on average 15-20+ degrees warmer in winter so golf all year unless there is a wintertime blip– which they most certainly have. AND, summer is not that much warmer.
Of course Cherokee is 2:45 away so that doubles my drive. On the other hand, it is shorter to fly to Biloxi or Tunica than to Vegas but, believe it or not, about the same price.
Oh the compromises we make… 🙂
SO, if you are not in that sort of position after playing this year, get to another live seminar and make sure you sign up for the personal review by Mr. Finesse on Friday.
From a guy who did what they told me to do, is happy about every time I walk into a gaming room. By the way, I do not like BlackJack much as I find it boring generally. HOwever, following the GTC instructions I rarely are a loser when I sit to take a break from craps.

These principles seem very simplistic, yet they are difficult to adhere too. Not seeing the immediate benefits of something can be disheartening and can often cause even the most disciplined individual to change course. Patience truly is a virtue and your post is a direct reflection of that. I was able to have some very large wins this past year.
However, I must admit that the gambler in me ended up being my biggest downfall. Each big win brought with it the propensity to continue chasing after more big wins. Crazy crapper bets (i.e. Putting $500.00 on the Hard Ten which I have hit on several occasions. However, it still is not a smart bet to make over the long run. Making high house edge bets such as placing the 5 and the 9 or betting the Hard Ways, etc.) My decisions put me in a lot of bad predicaments and I made a ton of mistakes. Shooting when I was fatigued, staying at the table for abnormal amounts of time, not putting in the proper amount of practice time, thinking I am better than I actually am, and most detrimental of all, not betting properly in proportion to my bankroll.
I took a Primer Class and two Refresher classes and have been able to develop a very good shot. However, I thought I was hot stuff and would make unreasonable decisions. Thus, I have suffered some pretty big losses throughout this year as well. This is a very good post and forces much self-reflection. It is a reminder that all GTC principles must be implemented during play if you expect to be a winner in the long run.
The instructors are not telling you something they heard, they are telling you something they know. I have dedicated myself to becoming more disciplined in the art of what GTC preaches and putting in the appropriate amount of practice time to become proficient at this game. I want to be a consistent winner or at the very least, a very hard “out.” Discipline will make that happen.

You made our day. Both of you are certainly on lthe right track. We would only add one thing—remember we are the casino with the edge. It is not an edge that will beat the crazy crapper bets with a hight casino edge but for sure will, over time, beat the low edge bets–think pass / come bet with odds, place the 6 and 8, and buy the 4 and 10 for $25 where the vig is paid on wins only. The GTC way is not a quick gamblers mentality of making a hugh win on the prop bets in the middle of the table, but one of "slugging it out" and letting our edge take over for a long run win over our life time. This is what the casinos are doing. Yes there will be ups and downs, but with the math in our favor we will win over time if we pratice our throw and bet correctly.
So glad to see this thread.

You are right on point when you say "slugging it out." That is exactly what this game is. A good ole fashion slug fest and I have to keep myself reminded of that fact. I find it hard sometimes to tame the Marine in me and my aggressive and competitive nature reign supreme. I make the low house edge bets (2% or lower as described in the books and as instructed in the classroom), however, I’ll go after the Hard Ways or I’ll place the 4 and the 10 on a consistent basis. Those aggressive ways have to cease if I want to reach my maximum potential as an Advantage Player. Thank you for the advice.

For the next 5 trips to the casinos put an amount away…. Maybe let’s use the example of $20, any amount you want… Just for hardway betting. Keep track of this. As you play your hardways from this initial amount… Wins and losses. See if you have a profit after 5 sessions

For each trip I designate an amount of "crazy money" that I can use for an entire trip. Usually for me it is something like $25 per trip and sometimes I don’t even spend it all. This crazy money allows me to make a Fire bet or other feature bet or even a crazy hedge bet or something that I basically never bet. Then when I want to really make one of these crazy bets I don’t have to feel guilty or think about it too much. As long as I have crazy money I can bet it but when the crazy money is gone then it is gone and no more of those bets for the trip. These bets can be made on yourself or others. You can have a little fun but not go over board.
Once in awhile I will actually win one of these high vig bets but usually not. If I win one then I reload my crazy bet money back to $25 for that trip and take any extra and put it in my regular 401g to be used in a much better way.
You all would have to adjust this crazy money amount to your own bankroll but it does keep the discipline in check and allows you to take a crazy gamble once in awhile. Just an idea for everyone but it does seem to satisfy my Craps play.

It was certainly a pleasure playing with you (plural) and the gang down south.
I was wondering if you have played again since and if the shoes have helped? 🙂
Love to you both,
JJ

You do keep yourself in check that way. Nice thinking!

I was hoping by having to keep track of these bets it would help me to quit making them but I’m not there yet! 😆

Mr. Finesse should be happy. He can now come to my garage and be done for the day with exercise in 6 minutes (includes walk to and from… 🙂 Rather than having to be 20 minutes on a boring machine at the gym.
