Would love to form a group in my area

Spread the love

I just finished reading HardNine’s nice trip report and it got me to thinking, which can be a very dangerous thing! I live in Cincinnati, OH and would love to hook up for some regular play with other GTC’ers. I play with a group but, except for my bride, Lady Luck, none of them are GTC’ers and they really don’t grasp the idea of blocking, etc. Kind of takes some of the fun out of it for us.

So, if there are any GTC’ers in Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Columbus, or Dayton that would like to meet on some sort of regular occassion at one of the many casinos in those areas, I would love to hear from you. Even if we only meet once and have a blast that’s OK with me but I would hope to find a more regular game.

Reply to this post or PM me if you want to get something going. I will gladly take the initiative to put it together.

Hey Dennis,
You know, I would like to join your team but, but I live in South Texas. Over the last few months the one thing that i’ve learn while playing is that if you don’t have a team then you can win LOTS of $$$. I hope you get a team together Dennis. It will serve you all a great deal in making $$$.

Good Luck,
Carlos

Hey Jawbones, Happy New Year!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I started with just 1 name at my first class and I kept going to classes, even if I didn’t take a class. I just went to meet other people and before you knew it, 1 name grew to 3, then 5 and so on.

The great part about the open house on Friday is it gives you that chance to mingle whether you’re friends, family or just hanging out for the weekend. In fact, you don’t have to come the entire weekend, just stop in on Friday, play, hang out and you can always leave on Saturday or Sunday.

I’ll check my notes this week if I know of anyone in your area in case if they may no longer be on this site but still visits when we’re in town.

Hope to see you in AC in March.

team

Just a note from the experience our team has had.

You recall in "breaking vegas" Frank talked about him and Dom being a
double edged sword to the casino buffet ( craps table).

Well team play can also be one, one that we learned the hard way.
When we started the team, we felt hey we all took classes so now if all
of us just play together we can’t lose…right??…wrong, you can actually lose much
more than if you were playing alone.
We found a number of reasons for this, first not all shooters are
shooting from their best or at least effective position. We also found that you
tend to bet more thinking all of you will beat the house, and finally you tend to
play longer and dig a deeper hole than you would alone because you feel the other
guy will bale you out.
For us at least we went from 4 member team to a 3. that is just one of the
things that can happen. Then we paid more attention to quality of the throw
from each of us before we bet. then kept tract of the results on
different tables, and are now playing only on tables where we can be affective.

We are winning now, but it was a hard road, and we found we need to really
pay attention to our play so we don’t allow the excitement of playing
together over shadow our common sense.

I appreciate all the responses and advice. I still hope to hook up with one or more people in the area. I’ll give periodic reports if a group happens.

Thanks again.

Gman,

You are absolutely correct. We have been down that same road.

Example—early on Rose and Doc happened on several instructors at a table. When a point was made we bought in and immediately begin to bet–placing the 6 and 8 as well as pass line bets and come bets. Before we knew it we had 5 numbers covered with odds, no pay days and the old "7 out" appeared. We got greedy. We were way over our heads and bet way too much for the bank roll we had at that time.

Now we do a five count on other rollers–instructors and students included–and tread lightly until we have a couple of paydays and then begin to press. He has worked much better for us. And all of this is allowed with our bankroll.

A great post to this thread.

Jawbones–best of luck as you put a team together. Rose and Doc hope to join you later this year when the weather is warmer.

The most important thing about team play is liking the same kinds of foods and shows that wasy you stay in a group no one wanders off by themselves and tosses a huge hand and the people that did not get in on the hand are but hurt.

Causing a riff ruining the mo jo of the group, the start of the end.

You also need to like the same tables and places to play another must, if you go to a table that some do not feel comfortable at and they shoot poorly they may get the feelings hurt, once again ruining the group mo jo.

BMan, I love the thoughts on team play as I’m getting into a few more of these situations. I’ll be in our second meeting this weekend in Hoosierland and I now see that there are many facets / dynamics to consider. I take it your food and show comment relates more to longer team play vs. local, but still important to consider.

Thanks!

Jawbones is a great guy BTW for all to know.

I don’t think he was really talking about "Playing as a team" but more to get together with other shooters

Thanks Dom for the kind words. That is exactly what I am looking for. Not a team with shared money and all just a group of skilled, advantaged players to hook up with and play. Kind of like we do in the evenings after classes are done.

I am sure that I am not the only one in the Southern Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana area that is a GTC’er. If there are any others in the area let me know and we’ll meet at one of the casinos in the area occassionally and shoot.
