Craps

Kinda long trip report

Spread the love

I just returned from a 4 day trip to Vegas. Stayed downtown and only ventured to the strip once for about 2 hours. Got there Friday about 11 and was at a table by 12:30. Left early Tuesday morning so I had a good 4 days with many hours of table time. Like many of us in this game we love, I had many ups and downs but the bottom line is I came home with just a tiny bit more in my 401g than when I got there. Final profit was $133 and I don’t even want to try to figure what I made per hour! Not sure there are small enough numbers. Anyway, I came a way with a few epiphanies that I thought I would share.

1) There is a such a thing as too much craps. I played for hours each day and the more tired I got the worse I played. Didn’t play a minute of Blackjack this trip because I wanted to work on my Craps techniques.

2) The game of Craps has some rather severe swings. I lose $300-500 one session and win $600-700 the next. A lot of ebbs and flows so, as all the instructors say, trust the throw and bet within your 401g limits.

3) I changed my betting a bit and I like it. Happy to discuss my changes if anyone is interested. But, I need to be a bit more aware of what my dice are doing and change on the fly if need be. In one session, I had 2 turns in a row where I had established a PL with Odds, CB with Odds and placed 6 and 8 if they were not the Pass or Come bets. The first was a 21 roll hand hitting box numbers most of the time but not the ones I was on. The second was a 26 roll hand (witnessed by Bman, thanks for coming by Bman) where I really nailed the 4 and 10. Problem was like in the first session I was not on them. After seeing them hit over and over (mostly the hardway) I finally got smart and bought each for a quarter and made some bank on the roll. Only made $400 but could have easily been $1K if I had jumped out earlier. Great lesson learned.

4) My ability to hit my target is MUCH improved after practicing with a bowl (thanks Dom and Doc Crapology).

Summary: out of 4 days there 2 ended in profit for the day and 2 ended in losses. The losses were $133 smaller than the wins when all was said and done. Not much growth to the 401g but as a wise man once told me "Any win is a good win". As i get a bit more comfortable with my betting change and the amount I put out there I am sure that number will grow. Oh yeah, I finally hit the 40 roll club on this trip. I had one roll of 41, 2 in the mid-30’s, several in the 20’s and teens. Sadly, I had more than my share of point-7 outs as well but overall I am very pleased with where my throw is and as my skill continues to improve so too will my 401g.

Had a couple of fellow GTC’ers that tried to hook up with me but we never could get it to happen. Thank you to those who tried. I’ll do better next time.

Sorry for the long post but all in all it was a great trip and I wanted to share some of my revelations with "the gang"

Sounds like an overall good trip. With some comps–rooms, meals, etc, it can be an very inexpensive trip doing what you love to do. If we were to offer a suggestion, don’t play when you are tired, but we are simply repeating what you already mentioned in your post. We have made that mistake many times in the past. So congrats on a win.

Keep up the good work and continue to practice. Your and Mrs. Jawbones can continue to practice together and the improvements will come in spaces. Hope to see you again in the 2016.

Never too long of a post. Love the details. You are definitely at a point where you have to trust your throw. And a win is a win. To spend 4 days in vegas and come home with more then you went with is great. Keep up the good work.

Here’s a brief update. Lady Luck and I went to a local casino last night. We each took one turn with the dice and came home with another $178 to add to the 401g. It would have been more but we were at a crowded table and stayed for one full round of the dice. 5-counted everyone but still gave back about $50 or so to the chicken feeders. Decided we were happy with the win and went to dinner.

I love this game and the better we both get at our throws, the more I like it. Had a couple of people disappointed that we weren’t going to throw again.
