The Worse Call in NFL History

Spread the love

With football season now here, sports fans can make with way back to their Sunday rituals of pre-game tailgating fun, smoky bbq, iced cold beer, and unpredictable pigskin action. Fans from across America cheer their hometown team for 16 weeks, hoping at a chance to appear in the play-offs; however, every team has one goal in mind: to become the next Super Bowl Champions.

The previous Super Bowl showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots broadcasted the most viewers in television history, with 114 million spectators. Whether a Seahawks fan, a Patriots fan, or a fan of neither, no one could doubt the intense, nail biting game, the score tied 14 to 14 at half-time, as QB’s Tom Brady and Russell Wilson battled to score on both ends of the field, using all options of their offensive weapons.

As the fourth quarter approached to its final minutes, Brady took his team to the end zone, leading the score, 28-24. With the clock rapidly ticking away, the Seahawks drove down the field to the 1-yard line with only 20 seconds remaining. What happen next would be called one of the worse plays in Super Bowl history, when Head Coach, Pete Carroll, called a pass play versus a run play. At this point, RB, Marshawn Lynch statistics included 1TD and 102 yards for the game, with 13 TDs and 1,306 yards total for the season. A virtually unstoppable Lynch watched on the sidelines, as Russell’s pass was intercepted on the next play by rookie, Malcolm Butler, New England becoming the XLIX Super Bowl Champs.

Television cameras zoomed in on Lynch’s reaction after the interception, Lynch shaking his head with body language that implied, “that’s what you get.”

On a trip to the craps table this year, I was throwing consistent rolls in the 20’s; yet, nobody at the table wanted to get the dice back in my hands; everybody wanted to be a shooter. I stood at my spot (on the sideline) as chicken feeders took their turn, most of them not getting past the five-count. Even though the ploppies realized I was the shooter, that still didn’t matter to them. I shook my head, with my body language implying, “that’s what you get,” as dealers collected losing bets after losing bets.

If you have a player/teammate that’s shooting consistently, with dice beautifully on-axis, pass him/her the dice. There is no need to always shoot, if you’re not performing well. Get the dice back in the hands of the shooter, into the hands of your Marshawn Lynch so that it does not cost you the game.

VeraS,

So well said. It has happens to all of us all the time. But we have to remember that these ploppies are simply a great examples of Billy The Kid’s statement of the Moran factor. They may know the basic rules of the games but in reality they know nothing of the facts of the game. Then know nothing of the edge against them, have never really read a book concerning a strategy of the smart way to play.

As you imply there is never anything more fun that playing at a table with only GTC players (or only 1 or 2 chicken feeders) with the GTC players not in position passing the dice to those in at SL1 and SL 2 as well as SR1 and SR 2. The ploppies who insist that they must "touch" the dice and throw are fools, but they have no idea they are fools.

Great Post. Look forward to seeing you in a few days.

P S—In defense of Pete Carroll, I knew a famous coach who was once the head coach at The University of Texas, when Texas was in its prime. I commented that why in the world did a particular coach called a play that was a bust. The coach’s response—but if the play had worked the coach would have been a genius. Just 2 cents from the peanut gallery. .

Versa I am not a big football fan .But you are right . In yesterdays game with cards they only had to run out the clock but threw for a TD to make it a 2TD game . Instead of one .But if it did-en work out that way it would have been a bad call .
I hate it when a poppy takes up those spots and passes the dice .I asked one one time why he wanted that spot and he said that it was easier for him to make his bets if they are right in front of him .
I should of told him to invest in some glasses .When I saw him betting I was wondering how good of a roller he was and was SHOCKED when he passed the dice .He did later roll after passing the dice 4 or 5 times . The dealers told him what the hell nobody else is doing any good . He was a CFer with no luck .He lost about 3,000.00 while I was there.
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂
