Craps

Buyer's Remorse???? …

Spread the love

I was on ebay & found a craps table for sale … 12′, looks like possibly one that is from one of the entertainment places, that has packing boxes to travel and protect it. Well, I never thought that I would win the bid … but surprisingly I did …. now, where do I put it?

It will be coming in 5 pieces …. (2) horseshoe ends, (2) long straight rails, and a 12′ playing surface. I have plenty of room in the basement for it, but getting the playing area down the stairs & turning the corners may be an issue. I’ve been trying to talk my fiance into letting me put it in the living room, but I don’t think that is going to happen … I’d hate to ruin the playing surface by cutting it in half to give me a better chance of getting it down there, but I may not have any choice …

Anyone have any thoughts as to if this will harm the table by doing so or have any other idea’s? I should be receiving the table this upcoming week, which will be great, as it will give me more practice time before my next vegas trip. Of course, I’m starting to get buyers remorse, as I want a good place to put it and use it, but not have it looking like it doesn’t belong as well.

Thanks!!!

Hi!
Hopefully some of the construction guys on this sight can give you sound advice. I’m not one so I won’t try.

Awesome that you are getting a table! I really doubt you will regret it.

If you do need to cut it, it might not be ideal but you don’t roll the dice so as long as the cut is not near either end I would think it would be OK. Besides you have to do what you have to do to get it down the stairs! Hey, you could always take advantage of the problem and put felt layout on one end and synthetic on the other end.

Good luck, hope you figure it out and enjoy it! 🙂

Great that you won it! Congratulations. I personally don’t think there’s an issue, my surface is in two pieces and as long as you can pull the pieces flat when reassembling, you’re fine. And as mentioned, you’re not hitting the dice anywhere near the seam.

FYI, mine is in the Casino (living room)! Against the wall but can be pulled out when anyone comes over.

To good shooting on your new table!

Hope that you get the legs with the table .You can cut it if you have to . I made mine out of Oak plywood 4×8 sheets which leaves you with a seam . But after felt is on you never would know . I hope it comes with felt also .
I just Hate thinking about when I move . The 2 plywood boards weigh a lot .
Other then that you should be good to go .
Have Fun with your new table and take some Pics .
Good Rolling . 🙂 🙂

The tables that we assemble for all the classes are in two pieces.

The table Rose and Doc have came with the bottom in one piece. No stairs in our house so that is not a problem for us, but the bottom is one heavy piece of work.

I would think you could cut it in half. After you get it down stairs, you could take several pieces of 2 by 4 –maybe 2 to 4 pieces about four feet long and fasten to the under side of the bottom spanning where the bottom was cut. this should give it some good support. Assuming you have the legs to the table and there are 2 sets of legs, one at either end of the table, the middle where the bottom was cut and reinforced with 2 buy 4’s might be a weak spot and the table might not be level.

To keep the table level take some 3/4 inch plywood and make a rectangle box that is the exact same height as the legs, and place under the area where the bottom was cut. That will give it the support it needs to keep the table from sagging in the middle. Look at some of the underpasses on our highways, there is often a support pole in the middle to keep the bridge solid.

Although all of this can be done with a skill saw if you have or know someone who has a table saw, the cuts might be a lot smoother and straighter.

Good luck. Send me an off the board email with your phone number and we can talk.

If you don’t know how to send an email off the web page, simply click on "Dr. Crapology"–or anybody’s handle the follow the instructions.

I am not much of a carpenter so remember how much you paid for this advise!!! 😀 😀

My table is a little longer than 12′ and it was a stretch to get in the basement but we did it! 8 steps down then a right angle to the left and 8 more steps. Put a scratch
in one wall about 4" long, easily covered with paint, wasn’t very deep. My table has 3 pedestals and the playing surface weighs around 120#.

We took this table out of a basement in a condo and the former owner said no one could throw on it. HA

Get enough help to get it in the basement.

When I bought my table I had to cut the deck in 1/2 to gat it into the basement. I pet the 2 half’s back together with glue and 1" X 6" x 30" pine which I glues and screwed to the underside of the deck. I left the deck upside down for 2 day’s letting the glue set up. Then we flipped it over and put the table together. It never sagged in the center, the 1" X 6" gave it enough support. And when I sold my house and sold my table we just reversed the procedure.

Good luck and enjoy.

Well, thanks for the post & add’l comments everyone!!!

Got the table delivered today … 30 minutes later, and it is set up, just not in the living room LOL. It is worn, but should be expected as it is used. The table has 2 end legs, w/ (2) 2×6 that runs between them to support the table length wise. So, cutting the table top in half will not be an issue when I’m ready.

The only thing that I don’t care for is that all the rails do not rest on the table top at all, actually, the rubber pyramid’s on the horseshoe ends do all the work. I’m thinking that this isn’t a good thing as if I have people over to play/learn/practice they may push down on them, and I don’t think they will be able to take too much of that. I checked with the seller, and they stated that is how it goes together, that is what helps to make it portable. I will have to think about possibly new bottom so I can attach them or get them a little better support. Also, it is a little taller than the ones I’m used to playing at, but that isn’t that big of deal. I will need to change the felt on it, as the one that is there, the boxes / pass lines are not straight, they have a slight skew to them. But if I redo playing surface, I will seriously consider using felt on one end, and mircrofiber on the other. I may have to also see if I can find another rail, so I can put the stick man on both sides also (or make a piece to fit there). That way, when practicing, I can practice for the whichever casino I’m going to.

Hopefully, I will now have a better chance to working on the fundamentals … I will post a couple pics, once I figure out how to get my phone to take the picture, in lower quality so the size isn’t soo big (now they are 4 Mb).

Eyez What holds the rubber . I would think that is or should be were the support is .I don’t know if you have seen the pics from the table that I built .You may be able to go back and find them to give you some ideas . Just a thought .
I will try .
Hope it works out for you . You will have fun any way .
I looked on line for chips and found 1,000 for 79.00 . But that was awhile back .You will need them for Eyez night casino PARTY .
