Mastering My Game

Spread the love

After a few losses and a nice win, I’ve been taking strides to totally refine my game by playing to my strengths, listening to that little voice that kicks truth, and making up my mind ahead of time of exactly what I’m going to do.

I have the shot and the betting knowledge to beat the game but I have to play to my strengths. Guys like Frank Scoblete can place the 6/8 for $150 a wop n bang them out 8-10 times off the 3V and make a nice piece of change off an 18 number roll. He’s a sniper! My strength is more in avoiding the seven. I might roll the 5 fourteen times….I need to get paid well off that. I stay alive with a lot of 1 on and 1 off axis rolls. That’s why I stay with the 4/4 on top and the 5/5 facing me. It gives me the best protection against the 7 and when I get hot the hardways come in bunches. I’m playing a variation of The Big skinny which is pretty similar to his play except I don’t have the bankroll to max out from the start on a 10x table. Most of my presses go to odds after I’m up on a few numbers and have gotten a few hits to get my spread back. He’s maxed out from the jump so after he gets his hits he starts placing numbers on top of his come bets. It makes more sense for me to press my wins in odds until I get to max. I start with the pass line 3x odds and 2 or 3 come bets 3x odds on a $10 table. My goal is to get covered across the board on the come bets with $100 odds and after a few wins start placing the come bet wins. Money in the rack locked up, hit a 10 for $210 off the come bet and buy it for $200 on top of the come bet. Money never comes out the come box. I also stay flexible. I took a play out of Frank’s playbook by keeping a few bills reserved to put on the hot number. The hot number is not always what I want it to be and sometimes it is. Regardless, I need to recognize the hot number and be all over it. I prefer when the hot number is the hard 8 or the 4 or 10 cause I can really do some damage. It takes patience, it’s not something you force. Buy the four for 3 bills take a hit then go to a G. If it stays the hot number you can be at max with a rack full of colorful chips before you know it. I use chips to count my roll. I want to know where I’m at in the rollI. The shot is a light even grip high on the dice. Square to the back wall with a slight tilt toward me 1 hop to the wall. I find a good spot on the table and I want to hit that spot all night long. I’m looking for consistent set correlation so I can take advantage. I might roll the 5/4 six times in a row. The 4th time it’s getting hopped for a quarter. Running the come bets across and pressing wins after I break through to the profit zone is my basic game. That’s very controlled but I still stay open minded to what’s going on in the game so I can really take advantage of predictable patterns based on my ability to duplicate the shot consistently enough to really get paid!

I’ve met and played with hundreds of would be dice controllers in the casinos. Either they are betting too much money with a terrible shot or they are not betting enough with good shots. Few have both and the terrible ones far outnumber the good ones. A guy with a terrible shot can be profitable. I bet a don’t come bet against them. It’s still almost 50/50 but by setting the hardway set and consistently throwing off axis it just seems like these guys are 7 machines. I refuse to bet with a bad looking shot. They can only beat me by luck not skill. That same luck will cause them to think they are doing something right and will lose them long run money because it’s a random game. I thank God for giving me an Edge. Come bets cause me to focus more and they play to my strength of avoiding the 7. I still keep myself very receptive to Big money gains…..to be continued.

So good to see you on the board again. Makes it feel like old times when there were really some great posts by shooters with great shots. Only way to learn, I think.

Same one, 3 fingers straight across light pressure pretty high up on the dice.

I have played with Jumbo he is a master at seeing what is going on at the table, he knows the difference between a good shot, a bad shot and a great shot.

He knows how to bet on the shot he sees.

I always love playing with him.

Now as for the contractor never went on a trip with him that we did not come home winners, and the food we eat sushi, steak, naked city his taste is the best and his shot is the shit.

These are two guys you never here from but should play with if you get the chance they know there shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bman! I haven’t had the good fortune to play with Jumbotron but I have met him and have heard the stories. I won’t pass up that opportunity. As far as understanding the shot, when discussing it with you, I feel like I’m with an elite instructor. When I really listen to what you have to say my shots as good as it can get.

B-Man has 1 of the best shots In the country. It just does what it’s supposed to do. It hit’s the wall n dies on a hardway. I’m an avoid the 7 guy, he is a hardway master. He puts a ton of time into mastering craft and is somebody I make it a point to play and hang out with whenever I’m in Vegas. Contractor we’ll get a chance to play.

For those of you new to GTC ….. Ron is a veteran player. He was here in the old days when this board was on fire with long analytical posts. Ron was one of GTCs most interesting and prolific posters
In those days detaied trip reports were posted daily. In addition, there was always someone looking to hook up for group play.
Posters would provide graphs and charts showing the ideal toss results and comparing it to their progress.
Spirited good natured strategy debates were constantly popping up.

Sadly many of those early posters are gone. Health reasons in some cases, others just moved on for one reason or another.

I am just as remiss as anyone for lack of posting. I used to put up long, sometimes very long (Lol) posted about tosses, experiences and experiments. I guess I just fell away from it. Perhaps it is time to revisit some old subjects to see if there are any new thoughts on the matters

This really feels like some yesterdays. Ron, I have made "what are the dice REALLY doing !"’ part of my mantra. Not what I want them to do. My stamina is not what it was, and I try to make every moment count. I miss the intensity of what we had, and telling my stories helped me enjoy the moments even more.

Bman, you didn’t hit any HWs when we played, but I still owe you dinner. As a SR shooter, I told you I would soon have a SL shot. Hope I get to show you. I still start with the Barrell at practice time. Two glued together, really shows any flaws, quickly.

I pass them to Tom too. I like having better shooters than me around. I’ll block in a heartbeat. More times than not it’s just me vs them. Sometimes in the casino seeing bad shooter after bad shooter, I think to myself I know or have met some great shooters but they all live around the country and schedules rarely match. AC Dc week is cool, I always try to come through for a day and play with some of the fellas. My nephew is getting Christianed on 3/1 by Philly so hopefully I can play on Saturday.

DM,
I read posts on this site to glean every bit of GTC wisdom for help in improving my throw.
I sense you have some good info here. May I ask you to enlighten us on what your above
words mean? Could you also expand on your answer so we can all catch what you mean?

I showed him the effects of shooting with two dice glued together if you are the slightest bit of the dice will wobble at the very least, try it glue two together and toss them see if you can get them to rotate and not wobble.

Posted by: DavidM on February 20, 2015, 3:01 am

7×7, simple and smart. I don’t remember whose original idea it was. At a class in Vegas a while back, Bman walked up on me as I was using a practice station. "ahh, using the barrel". I never, never, leave home without my two di that I glued together. Be sure they are very straight and square, and dry that way. Think you are hot stuff…toss the barrel and it wobbles all over the place. For me, it is the best tool of all. For me.

Slightest adjustment, makes a difference in a motion you are able to see easily. Until that barrel SLAPS your practice board…you are really not ready to practice anything meaningful, and darn sure not ready for the table. Make you a couple of them. You will understand, and enjoy them. Just another Gem from the Cadre.

I believe that I showed you the barrel the first time we meet for practice in your room at what is now the link.

Do not remember who showed me.

is super glue sufficient to make slick plastic stick together? will try this out.

…only got gorilla glue around the house…

Posted by: getagrip on February 21, 2015, 3:29 pm

Rival,
I’ve used both Gorilla and Krazy glue(not on the same pair of course) on dice barrels I have made. Over the years some have come apart again but not until they have seen a lot of use. It doesn’t take more than a drop of glue. Otherwise you will end up with it oozing out and making a big mess on your dice. Make sure you get the two really squared up when you glue them. If they are off even slightly they will fly funny because of the misalignment. Also, let them dry for at least 24 hours before you use them. Good way to use up "retired" dice. I have at least a half dozen barrels I use for practice.

This is what has worked for me so hope it helps you. πŸ™‚

Bman, I do remember shooting into the "practice box" you had in your room. Very sharp. I have two small boards, slightly different bounce, and easy to pack.
We both shot SR, and I took SL. You got pissed because I didn’t bring my "A" game. We worked it out, and still made some $$. Have worked on SL shot. For me, it
makes my SR shot softer. It works. I play alone, but you will do. I would never have to worry about CORRECTNESS at the table. I still owe you a dinner.
