I'm sure it's been answered before…DOUBLE PITCH

Spread the love

Can pls someone just repost, or point me in the direction of what I need to fix when I’m getting a double pitch on one of my dice. I’m sure its something with the grip. and I know this question has been covered many times, but for some reason I can’t find a concise post that covers this. thanks

Rival, We will take a stab at how you might best be able to get rid of a double pitch that haw a result of a 2/5 or a 3/4. It’s hard to say without seeing your throw. You are correct it is most probably in the grip, which is a most important part of the GTC technique. A double pitch is usually caused by one die over (under) rotating causing one of the dice stopping and having turned 2 faces in relation to the other. There are several reasons that can occur. Here are two.

1. The grip may be too tight–particularly when one finger is tighter than the other. This causes the dice to come out differently and may well result in a double pitch. The die with too tight a grip will probably not be released at the same time as the other dice, making the rotation on the two dice to be different. Remember if you don’t have the die drop our of your hand on occasion, you are probably holding them too tight. You only need to hold the dice tight enough to have them roll off the end of your your fingers at release.

2. The fingers may not be straight across. The finger that is too high will cause the dice on that finger to come out a little early giving you an over (under) rotation on that dice which can result in a double pitch. That dice will also lead the other to some degree which may cause a double pitch.

Work on these two items in practice and see if that helps. (As you can tell, it was a little tricky to use the word die when talking about both dice and dice when you are talking about only one. Hopefully this did not make the explanation too confusing! Let me know if you have other questions.)

We do hope that others will chime in as there can really be several reasons for a double pitch.

PS–Remember we always must hit the back wall and those pesky pyramids at the end of the table will, at times, cause the dice to do funny things as they are doing their job. Our throw is designed to minimize the pyramids effect and give us a slight advantage over the casino. In other words at times the throw is perfect and the pyramids get in the way.

A true double pitch is caused by over rotation of one die as Doc mentioned. The majority of the time it is caused by the thumb not having equal pressure on both dice.
Try adjusting your thumb position slightly and see if that decreases the number of DP’s that you see.

Rival ,with me it’s the thumb and I have had some success with keeping my fingers and thumb both in the middle of the dice or my fingers a little deeper down the dice.

Thank you all for the information. It was helpful for me also.
A few questions on the hard ways set since that is what is discussed here. Does it matter which number is top and face or will any pair work the same? I seem to notice more 4/2 and 4/3 with T4F2 on both dice. Then if I rotate it to T3F5 I rarely see those numbers. What are your thoughts?

Inour humble opinion I don’t really think it makes much difference which numbers are on top and which numbers are facing you. Just use the same set each time so you can be quick as you set the dice. Using the hard way set and assuming the dice are on axis a double pitch is a double pitch which will always give you a 4/3 or a 5/2. A 6/1 means one or both of the dice are off axis.

If you aren’t working on your grip a lot you may be missing the boat. In practice, watch the dice in the air to make sure that one die is not leading or higher than the other and make the proper grip adjustment. Get those fingers straight across the front of the dice with the middle having the same amount of skin on each die. Remember the thumb needs to be centered with the same amount of skin on each die. We simply can’t talk about grip enough.

It has been my experience that from time to time, in the short run, the dreaded 7 will come up way to many times but other times I can have rolls in the 40’s back to back with only the one seven which obviously is the last roll of that turn with the dice. For Rose and Doc this is true in both practice and in the casino.

So now we come to bank roll—make sure you have enough 401g to protect yourself from going broke. The casino wins for 2 primary reasons. Primarily because they have an edge on every bet in the house with the exception of the odds bet at craps, which can only be bet in conjunction with a pass line or come bet which has a house edge. Secondly, they have a multi-million dollar bank roll to protect themselves when someone has a very long roll or hits a mega buck jackpot on a slot machine. How many people come to the casino with a $300 bankroll and want to play a $25 table? Probably too many and they will probably be trouble before they know it.

And that’s why Rose and Doc believe in grip and bank roll along with proper betting , with out all three you my be dead in the water. The GTC throw can be mastered, but these 3 items are paramount to your success as well.

Hope to see you in Vegas this weekend.

Just glue a pair of dice together and see how they fly they should rotate parallel to the table with no wobble, after you master that then put a 4inch bowl at the end of the table and learn to hit it every time at this point you are ready for the tables.

I still remember the FIRST time I threw with the glued dice . 😥 It sure shows a lot about your throw .
Are you going to make the meet and greet ?
I have practiced 2 times since got back from our month long trip .Just hope to do better in casino .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂
