Do we need a second game??

Spread the love

This is always an interesting question. There will be times that for a couple of sessions things simply don’t go as we would like. The dice look good but that old 7 keeps raising it’s ugly head. It was even last an entire day or a trip.

Yes we do need a good game where we can get an edge or at the very least we have a very low house edge. Blackjack using speed count can easily be the game you may need. For a table game with a very low house house advantage (HA) and is very slow with few hands played per hour, Pow Gai is an excellent game with this in mind. Remember because the house does have a long term house advantage we can’t beat it in the the long run. So play Pow Gai for low stakes for a short period of time.

A full pay video poker is a good outlet as well. Choose a full pay game such as a 9/6 Jacks or Better. Bonus Poker that pays 8/5 is at a near break even with perfect play. So give these games a shot.

If you are a poker player with some skill and the ability to read other players "tells" give it a try. I know that Doc can be read like a book and I simply don’t like to play. So I avoid it but it may be good for others.

Let me give you an example. The beautiful Alligator Rose and I spend a couple of day in that beautiful oasis in North West Louisiana called S/BC. A couple of great craps tables as well as well dealt 2 deck BJ games with excellent penetration. We had the pleasure of meeting up with LC, his running buddy TomM and for one day Tommy C. Craps simply did not work. The dice were looking good but we did not hit numbers that had a bet for them. So ‘Rose and Doc stopped playing crap. Don’t misunderstand we were only down about $500 because we used the 5 count, used GTC betting ideas such as the Big Skinny using come betting and only placing the 6 and 8. Without these techniques we could have been down much more. Most of our rolls were single digit with a few low teens. Rose was the champ with an 18, once again showing that the best man for the job is a woman. We simple did not hit the numbers we had money on.

Switching to BJ with speed count and basic strategy with a few variations in the positive counts, we were able to escape with $400 profit—a $900 swing.

So having a back up game is indeed a great asset in this thing we call advantage play.

Look forward to the 2015 classes. I know Rose and Doc and getting some calls and people are already signing up. Hope to see everyone soon.

A back up game is vital. For many years we(meaning my wife Miriam and I) would spend most of our time playing video poker in the casino’s. This was how we enjoyed ourselves and I would go off and play my other games Pai Gow and Black Jack when I wasn’t playing craps because I was tired or needed to sit to rest my bad ankle.

So please learn that back up game.

Sandtrap and I also play Pai Gow and video poker, and I play BJ using speed count. We enjoy the variety.

Not only is it a good thing for when you want to res,t you aren’t shooting well, or your spot isn’t available, but a second game comes in handy when you have a difficult box person, supervisor, or dealer at the craps table and want to leave that table. If you have another game or two, it still gives you something to do in the same casino, while you wait for a shift change. Sandtrap and I don’t enjoy driving around to other casinos on the off chance we can get our spots.
