A couple of weeks ago the old Doc was having a problem with the dice going all over the place. They look good in the air but would land and go crazy bouncing all over the place. Using my 24" by 36" mirror at the end of the table to watch all of my throw from start to release things really looked pretty good.
Then I did what I should been doing from the beginning. I examined my grip. Finally saw that my middle finger was not centered correctly just a little over on the die with the 1st finger. Moved in over a bit and would you believe the dice begin to behave correctly hitting the back wall and bouncing straight back down the table. Mind you not every time but one could easily see that there was some control on every throw. Had back to back rolls in the mid 20’s–not monsters but I was beginning to hit repeaters. Both money makers had I been in an actual casino.
When making a self critique of the grip be sure to check the placement of the thumb (centered) and be sure you have an extremely loose grip.
Rose and Doc have commented to each other that during the open house when we are taking a quick look at a former students throw, that the grip is where a little something has slowly gotten into the students overall throw. That’s why the pros on the golf PGA tour are so good—they can self critique yet have teachers look at there swing.
Hope this will help others when practicing.
