Click on the link at the end of this post to see the very first episode of "Have Gun – Will Travel" starring Richard Boone.

As you watch the show pay particular attention to the actor who plays the antagonist in the episode, Dave Enderby. Eleven years after appearing in this episode, he went on to star in his own popular series which ran for 13 years. See if you can guess who he is. If not, wait for the credits at the end of the show.

Have Gun – Will Travel is an American Western television series that aired on CBS from 1957 through 1963.

Here is a bit of trivia for you to see if you can spot in the show.

Originally, each show opened with the same 45-second visual. As part of that visual, Paladin’s right hand slowly draws a Western revolver from the holster, leisurely cocks it, and then rotates it to point the barrel at the viewer for 10 seconds. In this time, Paladin delivers a pointed line of dialogue from the coming episode.

Listen for that "teaser" statement in the opening credits. Then see if you can notice where that line is used in the episode.

Skinny, this brought back a lot of memories as this was one of my favorite shows. Although I did recognize Paladin’s enemy I could not remember his name. Jack Lord was the star of Hawaii 50—book ’em Danno!!!!

Paladin was not the characters name. It was his "wire" address. Can you name the man’s name? Hint: A show was later named that name and starred Richard Boone.

Richard Boone starred in a movie called "His name was Madron" 3 years after the Have Gun – Will Travel TV series ended. But the character in that movie was not Paladin. It was just some old gunslinger not related in any way to the character Paladin in the series Have Gun – Will Travel.

Unless I am missing something, I am pretty sure the character’s name was Paladin in the TV series.

When ever he was asked his name he stated Paladin. Additionally, whenever being addressed by the Hotel houseboy he was called Mr. Paladin.

OK. Here is another hint. It was set in Los Angeles in our time.

Update:

I’m wrong. I read an article in TV Guide back in the early seventies and it seems it was incorrect also. The show was set in OK in 1901 and no references were made to Paladin or Have Gun Will Travel. The show was "Hec Ramsey" in 1972. Supposedly Hec Ramsey was Paladins real name according to the article in TV Guide.

Yes, according to Wikipedia, "During the show’s run, there was speculation that Hec Ramsey was actually an aged version of actor Boone’s earlier character, Paladin from the long running CBS western Have Gun, Will Travel — but this was never confirmed, and no references in the shows as broadcast explicitly tie the two characters together."
