Supposedly there are instructors that use the one finger front. I would like to hear from any of you regarding this. I wish to explore similarities in outcomes and possibly some remedies. Alright, alright just don’t bring up change to 3 fingers. Or, am I alone in this? Must I find my own way?
I have just recently discovered a method to keep from opening my hand so much. Really works! I bought some special gloves to help with the arthritis in my hands while driving. These gloves are helping with developing the muscle memory. I did not foresee the help with my craps game.
If you are not an instructor please comment if you use the one finger front.

But and I will say this again BUT there are occasions where someone has a physical problem using the 3 finger front grip is not possible.
A deformity, a broken finger, missing fingers or arthritis in one’s hand, fingers, thumb or wrist.
I am a much better shooter with the 3 finger front grip. About 8 years ago I had surgery on my shooting hand, wrist and thumb. The surgery helped but I still have problems and there are times I can not use my 3 finger front grip.
I always go to my 3 finger front grip first and if my hand or thumb is bothering me I will use a 2 finger front with the index and pinky fingers on the outside of the dice. I hate using this grip but I want to throw the dice like everyone else. If I am playing with other instructors or good shooters I will let them shoot because I know they will be better than I can be using their 3 finger grip.
Like I said I am not an advocate of grip variations but I do understand that sometimes we must make an allowance for these physical handicaps. When I see this I will work as hard as I can to help any student overcome this problem.

I saw a framer that was born with no arms or legs that was doing things that a lot of us cant do .He learned to adjust to what he had .As some on this site may have some this that just don’t work the same .
I just thought of a little test just sitting here . I put my fingers straight down on table so fingers would be straight like on dice .First 3 finger then 2 fingers .Well there was less pain using 2 fingers .This was with no pressure just the position that they were in .I don’t know if this really means a lot .Maybe one of the instructors can weigh in .
Now sitting I just tried holding my hand up in the air and doing this . Boy was it hard to get the 3 finger grip with out pain .When throwing the dice there is less .I guess that when I am throwing it goes unnoticed .
After running a jackhammer for 40 years I do have some joint and muscle facts to take into the grip thing .Just saying WE are not all alike . That is one great reason to take a class .Besides learning a lot and making new friends .
Hope this puts a another light to the post .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I was born with 4 thumbs and had surgery when I was 2 to remove the two extra thumbs, and when I was 7 yrs old to correct my right thumb.
I have learned thru trial and error (AND the PRIMER) that my right hand shot is almost impossible to correct because I get very little thumb surface on the dice and it causes one dice to rotate normally and the other to spin like a top ….. it becomes very random. If I get them to spin and rotate (a BIG if), the dice are NOT on axis. I really don’t do my right-hand shot anymore.
My left thumb is "almost" normal, but it still is tough to work around. I CANNOT duplicate the grip that I get from the gripper when I don’t use the gripper — if that makes sense. My left thumb does not bend like normal thumbs.
But, I’ve worked hard for what I can do and my shot responds. I’ve hit enough fire bets to believe it that I can do it — plus, I’m a driven, competitive SOB and in my mind, I’m going to be successful
All that said, I use a 3-finger grip because it makes up for the lack of stability that my left thumb cannot give me.

Omc are you aware that over 400 people apply for mouse traps patents each year ?
When I was a child going to the doctors office was fun because they had this block game, you know round block, round hole, square block, square hole then thee was the child round hole square block always smashing his finger with the hammer trying to get the block through.
Priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not had consistently better rolls with the gloves either at home or in the casino. I have just had a better follow through by not opening my hand so much and that was the object when I first tried them. There has been a dramatic decrease in pain in my hands though. With or without the gloves
I am so much more comfortable with the one-finger front and am very confident when throwing. My best in casino was 60 in Kansas City last February.
Since taking the primer last June my practice with the changes recommended by GTC staff have been showing a nice improvement in the number of 20’s and 30’s and a noticeable decrease in 7’s. My SRR has risen from 8.3 to 8.9 and my on axis numbers have increased also along with my primary hits.
When I play, after about 20 rolls, my hand quickly becomes tired and achy when I am using the 3 finger front. I practiced it for a year with 3 fingers and charted the rolls as usual. When I went to the one-finger front my hand does not tire and I get better results. I will stay with the one finger front and look for ways to improve it. I hope any others that use the one front will post here.
It had gotten so bad that when driving I could only hold the steering wheel for 4 or 5 minutes then I had to switch hands just to keep going. Both hands being nearly equally affected. I guess it is the hell of getting older. The gloves have made it possible to drive many hours before tiring out so they are now
a daily part of driving. I drive in my business a lot of miles in traffic and lift 60# boxes. The gloves have been a life changer for me. No, the pain is not completely gone but almost. I have been using a topical Rx called "Voltaren G" and it helps a lot too!
I will see some of you in LV in a couple weeks and I will bring the gloves to the Friday open house. In the mean time keep those hot rolls coming!!
Brothelman, I do not advocate the 1 finger front for anyone else as it is not the norm, just for me.

The one-finger front has it’s challenges but I do not have to bend the middle finger at the first knuckle nearly as much as the 3-finger front. That is where I get the most pain, in the middle finger and that first knuckle. I can toss all night that way but about 20 rolls with 3 fingers and I’m done for the evening.
Your body will do what it has to automatically to compensate for the pain and that decreases your advantage, maybe drastically. If you lose your advantage then do something else. Remember, Bruce Lee said "Obey the principles without being bound by them." I even have that on a piece of paper on my table to always remember this. I think it is so appropriate for craps as well as martial arts.
My friend Goldfinger has been rolling with an unconventional toss in practice. Right handed from SR1 and no backswing. It amazes me how many 6’s he rolls that way.
I don’t know if he has been using it in the casino however. Possibly he will read this and comment.
Ten days and counting……..Vegas Baby!!

The reason I went to the right arm from SR1. I decided to increase my throws from stick right from 150 a day to 500 a day.on the fifth day something popped in my elbow. I could no longer throw without extreme pain.I needed to throw from somewhere so Idecided to experiment with my right arm from stick right one.
It came so naturally that I threw that way for three weeks.when I was able to throw again with my left arm I decided I would split my practice time between the two different ways.that way I could ease back into it.
I now throw about 180 tosses per day with each arm.
I don’t know why I get so many sixes, and I don’t get as much crap junk as I do with my left arm. Maybe down the road a ways I will test it under fire in the casino. But for now the left arm is pretty sweet.
