Update on Marilyn's Health

Spread the love

I received an update on Marilyn’s status this morning and it is not good. She has been diagnosed with leukemia and another condition. She will need our prayers to pull her out of this so lets all pray to whom ever we pray to.

Remember our prayers worked for Charlie so lets do it again for Marilyn.

PRAYERS WILL MAKE THIS HAPPEN

Sorry to report that Marilyn sent me an email and she has given me more info about her condition. She has acute leukemia with one year to live. She asks everyone not to contact her so she doesn’t have to keep talking about it.

I am sure when she is up to it she will checkout the GTC pages. Lets keep her in out prayers and keep our correspondence on the GTC site.

Thank you Bob. I don’t want to have to keep repeating the history and results, which just brings on crying jags. We came home yesterday to await the final reports, and to hear about treatment options.

My children came down from MA last night, and the rest of the family is coming today.

I would love hearing from people, so long as I don’t have to repeat what is going on. Bob will get the updates from myself or my son. Thaks to all my instructor friends who have already been in touch with their prayers.

Thank you in advance for all your prayers.

We received the final diagnosis today: acute myelomonocitic leukemia, also known as AML. This is a very fast growing disease.

We are off tomorrow to the Dana Farber Cancer Inst. in Boston, where my cousin has a friend who is a specialist in leukemia . Then, we come home for another consult. We want to be sure we will be doing the best treatment possible.

In any case, we will be starting treatment next week. Please keep the prayers coming. We need every single one.

Thanks you everyone. Goddess

Hello Marylin, With Patti;s cancer I am always studying and researching and I was going thru your AML.. I know your Doctors and Boston will do the best but Mayo Clinic and other are trying a drug call "Azactidine". Study shows progress in elderly patients that just get diagnosed.

Jusy my two cents as I feel helpless in your treatments and recovery. But, we will offer up prayers. One prayer is to see you and Charlie in AC!!!

So, see you soon and I also pray for alittle or no dis-comfort…Expect if Charlie gets to be a "Pain in the A?*# " 😀

Yesterday I spent the entire day having various tests done to make certain my organs can handle the chemo. When I finally returned to my room, I had the nicest surprise: Mo Rick’s son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Erika, had come to visit me. We had a lovely visit, and it really perked me up.

Last night vassilated between 103 fevers, and shaking non-stop.

And so it begins. Please keep all those prayers coming.

I am pasting the latest message Marilyn sent to me last evening. Let us all keep her in out positive thoughts and prayers.

Sep 20 at 6:34 PM

finished the three days of bolus antibiotics. Now on 4 more days of 24/7 straight antibiotic. Hgb has gone down to 6.o so got 2 units of blood. very high temps for 3 days. normal now. Very low BP yesterday. Gave extra fluids to raise it. No have to take fluid off with diuretic. Quite a catch22 and a merry_go-round. Charlie sleeping in room until tomorrow at least.

Sep 22 at 7:46 PM

Nothing much new to report. Getting transfusions almost every day, with Benadryl to prevent a reaction, which puts me to sleep for 3-4 hours. Tend to wake up at 3am,, and then sleep the morning away. I do try to sit in the chair most of the day, whether asleep or awake, per orders of the cardiologist. I get very scared at night, so Charlie is still sleeping here with me. Don’t know what I would do without him. Thank goodness he is healthy right now. He also brings me ice and drinks, which would take the aides forever.

Happy Birthday Bobby. You’ve been a terrific friend these past 12 years.

Much love to my GTC family, Marilyn

Although I never met Marilyn I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie, I gurss about two years ago at a GTC event in AC. He is a great guy. I am really saddened to see them going through this storm.
I pray that she can beat this thing and return to her beloved casino crap with Charlie.

I have seen people pull through may bleak prognosis and return to their life. I pray that will be the case here.

Yesterday received amazing news. My bone marrow was negative for any growth of bad cells. Yippee!! I am not in remission yet. I have a lot of fevers, which make me very drowsy. I will be getting growth factor every day to promote growth of good white cells. Also, transfusions as needed.

Thanks to all my GTC fammily for all the prayers. Please continue.

Here is a new update on Marilyn’s progress and it is good.

Marilyn was discharged from the hospital last weekend, everything was progressing better than expected.

She had another bone marrow test yesterday(Tuesday) and waiting for the results. If they are as good as expected she will enter the hospital next week(27th) for phase 2 of her treatment.

Lets keep those prayers going, we still have a long road ahead and we want to see Marilyn in AC next March. And Charlie also 😀

Posted by: Goddess on October 21, 2014, 8:56 pm

REMISSION!!!! REMISSION!!!! Today we were told that by all accepted parameters, I am now officially in remission. Yippee!!

However, the fight is not yet over. On Sunday I begin the consolidation phase, where I will be admittted for 6 days to receive more chemo. This cycle will be repeated for 3 times. However, if the cycle interferes with the holidays, I might delay a cycle for a week.

I am working towards going to AC in March. However, the doctor also said that those who do very well during the induction phase, as I did, usually feel very short of breath and fatigued for many many months.

So please keep the prayers coming that I stay in remission. I firmly believe that my GTC family has helped enormously, just as you did when Sandtrap was in hospital. I love you all, and hope to see some of you soon.

Here is an update that Marilyn sent me this morning.

Great GOOD News:

Nov 14 at 7:16 PM

Today is 2 weeks from my last chemo. I have been going to the cancer clinic 3 times a week for labs and transfusions each time. Today I was told that all my blood counts are up, and I didn’t need any transfusions today.

Not only that, but I only have to go once next week for labs. AND, I have been given the total week of Thanksgiving off! I am ecstatic!

I will be admitted to the hospital 12/1 for the 2nd week of chemo in the consolidation phase, and will be home on Saturday. Since chemo reaches its height in the body 7-10 days after the last dose, I expect not to feel to well the following week, but that’s ok. The docs say I am doing very well.

I was admitted yesterday for the second cycle in the "consolidation" phase, to hopefully keep me in remission. I will be getting a week of chemo, which is stronger than the "induction" phase, but for a shorter period of time. The chemo hits its height in the b ody 7-10 days after the last dose, so that’s when I don’t feel well. I am now completely bald, which is not too wonderful to look at, but it’s better than losing my life.

I will have a 2-3 week break, and then 1-2 more cycles. How many is dependent on how I accept each cycle; that is how sick I get. Also, how my blood counts do as far as returing close to normal and how quickly.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my daughter and her family from MA, cousins, and 2 of Charlie’s children and their children. I hope all of you did also.

Please keep all the prayers coming. They helped Sandtrap, and I am convinced you are helping me.

Spent the last week in the hospital with bacteremia (blood infection). Was extremely ill with high fevers and shaking chills treated with demerol. This is very dangerous for someone with no immune system. The docs don’t know how I got it, but the slightest thing can affect me, that wouldn’t affect healthy people. Had transfusions of platelets and whole blood every day.

Discharged on IV antibiotics, that I have to administer to myself. Doing well now, and was given this week off. Only have to go in next Wed. for labs and possible trasfusions.

Probably going into hospital Jan. 5th for a week of chemo. This will be the 3rd cycle in the consolidation phase.

Please keep the prayers going. I am certain they are working.

Goddess, the baldness is easy they make wigs that look like real hair they start at about 1500.00and go up.

The trick is to get your doctor to write a prescription for a cranial prostheses making your insurance pay for it.

This I know from a life changing event for a woman I was with in the 90s.

Trust me no one could tell it was a piece.

I mean she went once every two weeks to get it styled and cleaned cut fixed primped it was way cool.

I still remember the day she tried it on and the smile it put on her face.

Take care all my best.

Marilyn, 2015 is going to be your year, you and Mr. C will bounce back in royal style. Your GTC friends are keep you both in our prayers. We need your smiling face at the table keeping the rest of us in check. All the best for the New Year. TheUsualSuspect, SemperFi, carry on

Posted by: Goddess on January 2, 2015, 11:13 pm

I was admitted to hospital today for 6 days of chemo instead of waiting until Monday since my labs are all up. Doctor told us today that people with the bacteremia that I had frequently die, and that is why I am not allowed to travel right now. Glad I didn’t know that. Must get to hospital within 30-60 minutes if have a fever to start the IV antibiotics right away.

I will probably go home Wednesday after the last chemo dose in the morning. If I don’t develop fevers this week, and tolerate the chemo, then there will be the 4th and last 6 day chemo in 3-4 weeks.

If all goes well, I will be finished in time to go to AC the end of Feb. so you can all please pray for that as well.

Thank you all for bringing me and Sandtrap through our catastrophic illnesses with all your prayers.

Today I am finishing my 6th and final hospital stay. If my labs stay normal for the next 3 weeks, then I will have full immunity and won’t have any restrictions. I will still have to go to the Cancer clinic once a month for several months, and then every 6 months for several times, and then once a year for forever to monitor my labs.

The docs say I am one of their strongest patients for my age. I told them I don’t let anything get me down. The power of positive thinking, and always looking for the positive in everything.

Looking forward to seeing all my old friends and making new ones in AC in 3 weeks.

I just want to let you all know that I have finished my in hospital chemo treatments, and have been going to the hospital’s Cancer clinic 3 times a week for blood tests. The last two weeks I have needed platelet and blood transfusions.

This week my blood counts have been coming up, and I didn’t need any transfusions. I have also graduated to once a week visits. When my counts get close to normal, I will go to the clinic once a month for two years, and then once a year.

I have been given permission to travel, so I will definitely be in AC this week, and I will be a mentor. I do get tired, and sometimes my legs don’t work too well. If I have to walk a long distance I use a walker. For short distances I use a cane, and at home I don’t even use that.

Thank you for all your prayers, which I am very certain had an impact on my recovery. The doctors said most of their patients are not doing as well as I am.

I am so looking forward to seeing everyone.
