No windows and clocks on the casino floor so that gamblers lose track of time to stay and gamble longer than if they knew the time. Casinos have consulted psychologists to tell them what color flooring and walls will be the best to get people to gamble more. They experiment with different concepts of noises in the casino to increase adrenaline in gamblers to get them to gamble more. When they eliminated coins in the slot machines they kept the sounds of coins dropping on winning slot combinations to energize those in ear shot of a winning player. All kinds of bells, whistles and flashing lights go off if a big jackpot is hit to encourage others to jump on board and play the slots for a big win.
Casinos have personnel whose entire job is to decide which new slot machines to bring in and which old ones to remove. In addition there is someone to evaluate all the new table games that are available and figure out which ones to use in the casino. I spoke to one such person and I was amazed at all the games he reviews daily, how many places he goes to look at the games and talk to the designers. Deciding which ones to use, which ones to eliminate is big money to a casino. It is definitely a full time job and his performance is measured by how much revenue he generates. It is a highly competitive business.
Now casinos have technology available to aid them in analyzing the best ways to get gamblers to part with their money. It seems very mysterious and science fictionesque (yeah, I just made up that word). The concept is not new, just the means of gathering and analyzing the information is new. Of course there are still human beings involved. Humans have to decide what information to capture and what does it all mean? The interpretation of this information is dependent on human decisions. What action to take or not take is dependent on human beings. Yes, casinos now have tools available to do this faster and better than they did in the past. But it still comes down to humans and some are better or worse than others.
The bottom line is that now more than ever it is important to follow the principles Frank, Dom and GTC have been imparting for close to 10 years now. You are in control of your gaming decisions. Do not allow yourself to be influenced by anything that is not a sound gaming decision. Play only when you are at your best. Limit your time so that you are fresh and alert when playing. Only make wagers that provide you with a Player Advantage. Develop your skill as an Advantage Player and only play when YOU have an $$$ advantage. Do not allow yourself to be manipulated by the casinos’ attempts at increasing their profits at your expense.
