WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) – State regulators are not expected to decide on upstate New York casino licenses until this fall, but applicants are still staying active.
Caesars New York will hold a ceremony Monday to mark to opening of its office in the Orange County town of Woodbury. Caesars wants to build a casino near the Woodbury Commons shopping center about 50 miles from New York City.
More than a dozen applicants are hoping to win one of up to four casino licenses set to be awarded for three different upstate regions. The licenses will be divided among the Albany-Saratoga area, the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region and the Catskills and mid-Hudson Valley.
A state board is now reviewing the applications and is expected to make a decision this fall.
