Keep an Eye on Your Chips

Spread the love

I was at a table with some friends the other night.

I was at SL1. My friend at SL2 was rolling the dice. She was having a pretty good roll. A woman squeezes in next to her at the table. The guys at the end of the table yell at her to not disturb the shooter. This woman says she needs that spot because it is where she shoots best from. As per the whim of the dice gods my friend sevens out.

The woman gets the dice and says she needs some room to shoot. So my friend backs up a step from the table to be polite. The woman is very particular about how she sets the dice and how she throws the dice. Her toss results in her arm being stretched out toward the stickman. Now this is not a woman looking to control the dice as the force of the throw was too great. She does bring her hand back in a very controlled manner. She slides it back along the rail right over my friends chips.

I say to the table, "I think we have someone here who knows how to handle the dice. Let’s give her some room." So I put up a bet. I ask my friend to step back a little further. I then move my friends chips two racks closer to me. This woman moves closer to me. Again in her very specific way she throws the dice. Again her hand slides across my friends chips. At this point for the rest of her turn with the dice I keep my hand on top of my friend’s chips.

My friend keeps track of her chips and said nothing was missing, so the woman did not palm anything (successfully.) That was just the first time someone tried something like that right in front of my eyes. Oh, and they were just red and white chips. It wasn’t like it was green or black or other colors.

Moral of the story, Always keep an eye on your chips.

Good post. Always ALWAYS know were where your chips are on the board. If we always roll from SL1 ( SR1) our chips are always in the same place, so not problem. But when our spot is taken by another good GTC player and we are in another position, possibly blocking to keep the landing zone open, we still need to know where the dealer in putting our chips. For old Doc it does take a little more concentration since our come bets and place bets will be in a different place in the "box."

This may seem like a simple thing but if you very seldom, if ever, play from a different position you can lose track.

Bottom keep track of your chips and obviously know the pay offs when one of your wagers is hit.

CHIPS ARE MONEY.

Be in Vegas tomorrow.

If come betting and if there are a lot of come betters you really need to watch . Some of the dealers get confused at times .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

Here is what I do. If in an unfamiliar place among unfamiliar people I use my right index finger to put pressure against the chips pushing them into the rail divider. Also I keep ones to the outside. We caught a fellow swiping chips as he picked up his win he would palm yours. He has been 86’d at a number of Colorado casinos. You do need to be aware.

Let me just say that when dealing, it was one of our responsibilities to watch for people who swindle chips. Much more common than you would think. Even on the Happy Island. Always lock up your last loose chip with a $1 chip. You would be surprised as to how much more difficult that makes it for the Cheater.

As far as placement of chips in the box, come bets or place bets, there is a curved line that separates the come box and the field box. Anyone standing on the top of that line closest to the dealer gets put on the top line of the number box and anyone standing on the bottom half closer to the stick gets put on the bottom of the box. It does get confusing for the dealers (NOT ME OF COURSE) so you should always know where you are situated in the box and ALWAYS know your playoffs as all dealers are capable of making mistakes. And when this does happen, they are NOT intentionally trying to rip you off. It’s an honest mistake. When the table is crowded and lots of bets, it does get overwhelming. The dealers want you to win. It’s the only way they can make money themselves.

Hope this helps

This is a great topic and it is an item that Pit Boss covers in his lecture at our GTC Class. Protect your chips and set them up properly in the rail.
