I was speaking to a fellow crap player a few weeks ago, and the subject came up about the dice. He stated that he has been to casinos, where on some days he is able to have decent to good rolls, and then on others, it doesn’t matter the set or anything, but he just can not do anything with them. There was one day when there was a couple of them playing and talking to the pit people, and they opened up the drawer for them, only to reveal that they actually have dice from 3 different manufacturers, or so it seemed.
Now having this little bit of information, got me to wondering, before I ordered GTC dice, I had bought some dice from different casino’s gift shops to use. When I try to use those dice in my gripper, they do not fit. Looking at them side by side with the GTC ones, you can see that they are just ever so slightly bigger. I think that when I even checked a couple from the same casino, that there was one that was an odd ball size, out of the 6 or 8 that I had.
I guess my question would be, since I mainly practice with the GTC dice at home, when I goto the casino, their dice feel a little bigger most days, is that better for finger placement or shouldn’t it make a difference? Has anyone else ever noticed this before?

The larger dice are easier to grip and react better on the table. They are slightly heavier and therefore settle a lot quicker when they hit the table. By practicing with the GTC dice you will be trying to control a more difficult set of dice. If you can do well with the GTC dice, larger dice will seem a lot simpler for you.
It is like the putting drill in golf where they have you putt into a hole that is just slightly larger than the golf ball. Then when you putt into a regulation sized hole which is larger, it seems much easier because you have practiced with the more difficult one.

Many people have trouble with dice depending whether the dice have been on the table for a long time or are brand new dice. The ones that have been on the table for awhile will probably have the corners rounded somewhat. Brand new dice will have very sharp corners. I know there are some GTC people who hate brand new dice while Doc prefers the new dice as the sharp edges can catch the felt a little better. That is why we encourage, in your practice, that you change the dice from time to time. In this manner you get to practice with worn dice and brand new dice.
Just a few thoughts for your consideration.

Best thing to do here would be to acquire the dice that your favorite casino uses and practice with those. I know I do that when I visit a certain welcoming Canadian casino!

Example: when I go to Vegas I always stay at the same casino for various reasons. On the craps table at this casino they use two types of dice, polished and frosted. The week before I visit I practice with both types of dice because I never know which set they will be using on any particular day.
Invest in more dice and your dice will pay off.
I must say 90% of my practice is with the dice we sell at GTC.

I’m no engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just sometimes, actually a lot of times, over think some of the little things like that.

Since 90% of my play is at these casins in NJ, I primarily practice with those dice
I posted some comments about dice a few months ago and the issues I have encountered in NJ
Remember what Mr. Christie said….."the casinos can govern themselves" ……hmmmm???

This past weekend, the Princess and I did a "spur of the moment" trip to AC on Saturday.
We both had some good rolls …. but no big ones and no killer point-7’s. Basically, we treaded water …until 2AM Sunday morning…..we came back to our hotel and we played at that Casino. It is the Casino where I’ve hit 11 fire bets in 2013 and the Princess hit 6 of them. We picked up the dice to shoot and we both felt (and gave each other a weird look at come out roll time) that the dice seemed "heavier" and on my first come-out roll one die really lagged on the shot (should have been a sign to me) and I went out with a 6-1 combo after 3 rolls. The Princess also 7-out with a 6-1 after 2 rolls.
We moved to another table, and the two of us went out AGAIN TWICE with a 6-1 combo after 3 rolls. We moved to the 3rd table, and it happened again to us with a 6-1. One of my buddies, a CF-er, also 7-out with a 6-1. We stopped shooting and then started to watch all the rolls on the table…..we watched 25 rolls go by us and noted that either a "6" or a "1" was always showing up on the roll and we actually counted 18 times out of 25. And, of course the 6-1 together was ending the roll. Even the come-out rolls were 6-1.
We have been wondering if this Casino informed (thru video evidence) their dice manufacturer about the long rolls and the fire bets and of course, shooters using the "hardway" set. The dice "seem" to be weighted to bring out more 6’s and 1’s ??? Are dice companies developing weighting technologies to neutralize controlled shooters that use the hardway set???
Makes me wonder are they "cheating" ???
Remember, this Casino is located in the State whereby the Governor stated that the Casinos can "govern" themselves

Most casinos do not sweat controlled shooters. There are not enough good ones for them to worry about us. There are individuals who dislike the fact that we are trying to alter the game legally in our favor just the way they dislike card counters who are legally using their skill to alter the game. Those individuals sometimes make it unpleasant for controlled shooters. So just avoid those situations.
But it makes no sense for a casino to use weighted dice because that can cost them a lot more when players figure it out.

In the old days when the NJ CCC was there on-site, the tables always played well — even CF-ers did well. One casino had the "monster Roll" weekly contest and one pit-boss let me see the tracking book. I saw ro;;s in the 70’s done by CF-ers. And, back in those days, I WAS a CF-er and knew absolutely nothing about a GTC throw. I did set the dice…..and, I had rolls of 54, 47, and 38 when I set the dice, but I had absolutely no idea what I was doing OR how to throw.
NOW ????? — most of the time it’s 5 rolls and it’s done…..on to the next shooter/CF-er
