I need a bit of help. I have left 3 messages with the phone operator at GTC over the past couple of weeks with no response. I have been trying to get Dom or someone else to call me but maybe I can get the help I need here. It’s a bit of a long post but here goes:
1) I ordered Smart Craps software from the website on May 5. I paid through PayPal and have the confirmation email from them but have not received the software nor any confirmation from GTC. Can’t seem to get a call back when I check with the operator at 866-Set-Dice. Does it normally take this long to get the software? Even more importantly, is Dom OK? I am concerned that I haven’t heard from him.
2) I took the Memphis course in April. At that time I paid a deposit on a Refresher for me and a Primer course for my wife. She is brand new to the wonderful world of Craps and has only played 4 or 5 times. She understands the basic rules of the game and Pass Line with Odds and Come bets with Odds and placing 6 & 8. Our original thought was to take the course next year in Memphis because I have heard that the Memphis course has fewer students than the Vegas courses. We can work it out to come to the course in Vegas in October but this is where I need some advice. Is it true that Vegas has significantly more students? If so, it would seem that my bride may not be able to get the personal attention she may need to get her up and running with controlled shooting. Does anyone have any advice (especially instructors, mentors, and Admin) about which course would be better for a total newbie? Also, is October too early for me to get a Refresher since I am still in Novice mode. By the way, I am practicing every day and beginning to record my throws (which is why I want the software, see #1 above).
Thanks for taking time to review this and provide input.
Dennis
PS. Dom, I hope everything is OK with you.

I think you in a refresher and the bride in a Primer in October would be about right—about 6 months since you took the primer. If you come to the class weekend in October be sure that both of you come by the open house for a few minutes on Friday so we can take a quick look at your throw so that both of you will have a head start prior to the class beginning on Sat.
As to personal attention you will get the same, regardless of which city you take the class–regardless of class size. We will have plenty of stations where you will receive instruction in groups of 3 or 4. Also during breaks you can practice and someone on the instructional staff will probably come by and give you some additional individual attention.
Tell your wife that Alligator Rose and Doc really do enjoy practicing and playing together. We also are able to help each other out a lot—Doc made a recent post to this effect. GTC has been a great investment for us.
Look forward to seeing you once again.

I appreciate the replies and help. Again, I hope all is well with Dom. Just crazy busy I assume which is, after all, not such a bad thing.

You’re correct that the Vegas class has more students, but it also has more instructors.
The instructor to student ratio does not go down because there are more students. Our student to instructor ratio is about 4 to 2. That is because you will have a mentor with you the entire time, that’s one instructor, plus all the instructors at the stations.
Additionally, there is an open house on Friday, that goes from 9-5. There is no charge for this, all are welcome and there are plenty of instructors hanging out and casually interacting throughout the room all day. You will learn a lot in this day if you take advantage of the instructors’ willingness to teach.
The down side of Vegas is that the city itself is more expensive. Comps are not gotten as easily, the table have higher minimums, and its harder to find open tables on the weekend.
But for pure a learning experience, I think Vegas is a better option.

Dom Has been extremely busy with getting his new house squared away so he can move in in the next couple of weeks. I will email you my phone number so you can call me if you want. I talk to Dom almost every day and he is pulling the little hair he has left out. I hope everyone answered your questions but if they have not please call me. I am heading to AC tomorrow and returning home on Friday.
