BILOXI — The business of a $100 million expansion and renovation of Golden Nugget Casino Biloxi is complete and this weekend is all about the fun.
Company owner Tilman Fertitta will cut the ribbon at noon today on the second day of a three-day celebration.
The Golden Nugget Showgirls wearing colorful feather plumes will return for the party and a real head-turner is a Forrest Gump look-alike, who also sounds like the movie character portrayed by Tom Hanks. He’s there to promote the opening of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., the newest restaurant at Golden Nugget, and is carrying a suitcase of feathers and a box of chocolates.
Crews worked for more
than 15 months to give the entire property an updated look and feel and enclose the area between the hotel and parking garage into a wide open casino space.
"The Golden Nugget transformation is going to rejuvenate Biloxi, in the same way that we have helped revive downtown Las Vegas and the Marina District in Atlantic City, N.J.," Fertitta said in a press release.
Making the experience of visiting the resort golden, the Hand of Faith — the largest known golden nugget in the world — is moving from its prior home in Las Vegas to Biloxi. Following today’s ribbon cutting, it will be placed in its new, secure display case in the lobby of Golden Nugget Biloxi. The 61-pound "nugget" was discovered in Australia and sold to the Golden Nugget for more than $1 million.
The party continues Saturday as customers are invited to wear their Kentucky Derby finery to the celebration at Michael Patrick’s Sports Bar. Cowboy Mouth kicks off the first H2O Summer Pool Party Concert Series at the resort Saturday evening.
